Prior to this course I would "dump" materials/assignments along with what I thought was enough directions. I then learned through this course how to execute assignments with organized, precise directions (Overview, Tasks, Submission). Students make a choice to be in my French class but more often then not we have to adhere to topics in the textbook units and lessons. With that being said, I would love my students to have a variety of topic-related activities to choose from. When students get to choose a task they are genuinely interested in, they are more likely to stay intrinsically motivated during the learning process. Although I have tried multiple tools to increase engagement, students in that class tend to not follow directions nor participate. While this could also be a classroom management issue, I believe that some tools/activities may simply not be interesting to the students. After exploring the Schoology discussion board feature, I decided to assign one to my students. In the assignment, they are asked to pretend they are realtors, find a house for sale in France and describe it to their audience in the target language. After posting the description, they then pretend to be buyers and look at their peers' description saying whether they would purchase the house or not! However, there were certain blocks that I ran into, such as, creating video and audio questions within the form, where students can record their response and the lack of variety in question formats. 

I now use Schoology Assessments because not only am I now able to implement speaking and listening questions but I am also able to create a variety of questions such as labeling image, matching, ordering and more. The best part of it is that it’s self-graded and the score is automatically posted to the gradebook! 

]]> 2021-04-20 15:20:26 UTC https://padlet.com/mirna_metyas/41e24u63zajs3o04/wish/1438408314 mirna_metyas https://padlet.com/mirna_metyas/41e24u63zajs3o04/wish/1438450161 One of the tools I was intimidated to use is Nearpod, for a couple of reasons: it can be time consuming to create the presentation, grading can be tedious, and sometimes there are technical issues that cannot be resolved in a timely matter. With that being said, I wanted to try this tool to see if my students enjoy learning using it. While all the reasons that I previously started are still true, I believe that it was definitely worthwhile to try. It is only time consuming for the first time but I think I can be quicker with it now that I have used it. Grading still is tedious but it would not be terrible to use it for vocabulary and grammar introductions which can be maybe once a week or every two weeks per class.
