Identify the collection development librarian (name, title, where they work) who will be helping you. 3.Include a link to the library's website. If there is no website for the library, then use the link to its larger institution. 4.Describe what you hope to learn about this library (a bulleted list or 2-3 sentences). 5.Describe how selecting this library is important for learning about collection development (2-3 sentences is plenty). 6.Comment on two other classmates' posts.

Worthiya Yem, Media Coordinator (District Media Specialist I work with is Camie Snyder)

4. Though this is the second year I have been working in this library, focusing on collection development will allow me to really dig in and improve the collection overall. I hope to be able to learn the strengths of the collection, as well as what needs to be improved. To do this, I really need to understand the demographics of students, their interests, and their perception of accessibility to library resources.

5. By selecting this library, I can learn about many aspects of collection development and management. I will be able to understand the financial aspects such as budgeting and ROI, as well as how to gather and assess data. Additionally, I will be able to learn how to present this data in an efficient way to stakeholders and the general public.

Worthiya Yem

Amy Funderburk, Adult Services Manager

The patrons of this library have been described to me as being mostly highly-educated with a higher-than-average income (when compared to other areas of Wake County). Frequent users are adults over age 60 and families with children. I hope to learn: if this “general feeling” is accurate of this library’s users, if users adequately reflect the population in the geographic service area of this library, and whether certain groups are present but not taking full advantage of library service.

I am interested in how collections include materials for people in the numerical minority. Shelf space is valuable. How much room should be given to materials mainly of interest to a particular group? I think this library could provide an interesting setting for these questions, and I hope to know more after doing the community analysis.

Amy Weinberg

Catawba County Library - Maiden Branch (public library) : Maiden, NC

Allison McKiernan, Maiden Branch Manager & Lead Librarian

This is the smallest and most rural branch out of the entire Catawba library system. It is situated in the center of downtown behind the fire department, right off the main strip, by their schools, and many small businesses. I am curious about the branch's foot traffic and if materials are ordered to those statistics. I look forward to learning how Ms. McKiernan has to order for a small branch and how the collection has grown in relation to DEI, especially since the community has a fantastic Hmong population, since her arrival only a short while ago.

As mentioned, this library is unbelievably small; however, there may be small libraries but there are no small stories. I want to understand the logic behind how they decide what is specifically housed on this library's shelves as opposed to pulling books from other library branches. Also, I hope to see how for this library budgeting works since there is less room to fill compared to other branches. I am beginning to wonder if there may be ordering for several branches as a whole rather than individually. I guess I will find out as I go and begin asking more questions about collection development.

Kelyn Thornton
