I think the title “Wonder” is a wonderful title for the book. The “Wonder” can relate to the book. It can relate to the book because when people saw Auggie, they would wonder what happened to him. If I can rename the book, the title would be “Middle School Problems”. I would name it “Middle Scholl Problems” because the characters in the story had many problems in middle school like when Julian was bullying Auggie, or when Jack punched Julian. Also when everyone was talking about Auggie behind his back. That’s why I would rename the book “Middle School Problems”.

August Pullman is the main character of the novel “Wonder”. Two character traits I would give him are intelligent and brave. He is intelligent because when he took the test to get in Breecher Prep, he passed. If Auggie wasn’t intelligent, then he wouldn’t be able to go to Breecher Prep.“I know, well, that was a white lie…You did very well on it by the way."(p.12). This quote tells me that he was smart enough to get in Breecher Prep I think Auggie is brave because he decided that he would finally go to school even though he knew that the other kids would make fun of him or laugh or even bully him. I think he was brave for gong to school.

I think that two character traits for Auggies mom are caring and smart. She is caring because she always makes Auggie laugh when he’s sad and make him feel better when he is feeling down. She is smart because she knew that if she told Auggie that he was taking a test to see if he is smart enough to go to school, he would of said no and went to his room but instead she told him that it was an IQ test. " I know, well, that was a white lie."(p.12). That’s why I think that Auggies mom is caring and smart.

In the novel “Wonder” by R.J Palacio, the story takes place in Manhattan. I think the most important setting in the book was the school setting. I think the school setting is the most important setting because that’s where the most conflict is. “So when me and mom arrived at Breecher Prep…I saw Mr.Tushman standing there waiting for us at the entrance."(15). This impacts on Auggie because he may now feel less nervous and more relaxed when he sees Mr.Tushman is standing there waiting for them to come. Auggie’s home environment is a nice Manhattan town. His home environment impacts on him because it may impact on how he behaves. Auggie has a nice home and a nice family. That cam impact on him by being nice.

The novel “Wonder” by R.J Palcacio was told from many different point of view by many of the characters in “Wonder”. The story is told by August Pullman, Via Pullman, Summer Dawson, Jack Will, Justin, and then August again. This helped me understand this novel more because with the different point of views, I can understand what everyone is thinking and feeling throughout the events in the novel. I really enjoyed reading from the different points of view. I enjoyed it because it was exciting to see what everyone was thinking and it kind of feels like your inside the characters head.

Theme #1

There are many themes in the realistic fiction novel, "Wonder", by R.J. Palacio. Julian Albans was making fun of August by calling him a freak and other cruel names. Therefore, a good theme for this book is to treat others the way you would like to be treated. When Julian was calling Auggie these cruel names, Auggie became more self conscious. That is one theme for the novel "Wonder".

There are other themes that can relate to the novel "Wonder" by R.J Palacio. One theme can be is to not judge a book by its cover, or in this case, don't judge a boy by his face. When it was the first day of school and August sat down at a desk in his homeroom, no one sat next to him and they stayed away from him. When the teacher told Henry Joplin to sit next to August, he sat down and put his backpack in between them like it's a wall between them. Also, the other students called him a freak like Julian and they where making fun of him.

The ending of the novel "Wonder" by R.J Palacio was a fantastic ending. At the end of the novel, August got an award for carrying up the most hearts in the school year. After graduation Auggie took pictures with all his friends then the whole 5th grade students joined. The funny part is , is that no one cared that they were all squished against Auggie. August didn't care that he was taking pictures. In the beginning of the novel, Auggie didn't like taking pictures. I loved the ending of wonder because I liked how Auggie gained more friends at the end and how everyone was nice to him at the end. Also I liked how he was more confidant with himself. If I can add anything to the ending of the novel, I would. I would add that Julian comes back and he sees that everyone like Auggie and then he says sorry for being mean to him and then they become friends.

I would rate the novel "Wonder" by R.J. Palacio, five stars. This novel is about a boy named August Pullman who has a facial disorder. On his first day of 5th grade and school, he starts o get bullied of his face. He makes really good friends in the school and they help him through the school year. He is able to do everything an ordinary boy could do. The author of this novel is trying to teach a lesson. That lesson is that even if a person looks different, doesn't mean that their soul is bad or anything. in this novel there are many strengths and weaknesses. Some of the strengths are the multiple perspectives, and all the different conflicts. " And that's when I punched him right in the mouth."(p.154). Some weaknesses are when she was writing the Justin part of the book. I think it was unnecessary for her to writ that part in all lowercase words. I think the novel was wonderful. I liked how it teaches a very valuable lesson. I would recommend this novel to 10 and up. I think it should be 10 and up because I think that 9 years old is too young for this book because I think the book is too mature for 9 years old. I would recommend this book to others. I would recommend this book to other because it teaches a lesson to be respectful to others and be grateful for what you have.
