The fast is twenty-five hours long, starting before sunset the night before Yom Kippur, and ending the nightfall of Yom Kippur. In English, Yom Kippur means a day of atonement. In other words, it's a day to repair sins with man and G-d. A ram's horn is blown when fasting ends.

Another important holiday in Judaism is Rosh Hashanah, which is the Jewish New Year. This holiday marks the start of the Ten Days of Repentance. At the end of the ten days, Yom Kippur occurs. At a prayer service, the ram's horn is blown and symbolically wakes up the people. It is supposed to help the people think about how to lead better lives. Traditional Rosh Hashanah foods include apples and honey, which symbolize a sweet new year. Jews learn about their religion through sacred text. The difference between the two is that a Bat Mitzvah is for a girl and Bar Mitzvah is for a boy. When they lead a service, they take on the religious responsibilities of an adult. Jewish communities have a Rabbi for their synagogue.
