When you first begin school, you are learning and adjusting to the rules. Eventually, you become accustomed to the way classrooms work. Another example of active learning that I have experienced is learning how to handle certain kids at the preschool I work at. Every kid is different which means you have to handle certain situations differently based on the kid.
