If they were upset i would ask them if there was anything that i could do to help them like a hug. If they just told me to leave them alone or that  they were fine then i would just leave them alone. Sometimes talking about it isn't the way to go. For me, if I was going through a hard time I would just want my friend to be there for me. I would do the same for my friend.
