         <description><![CDATA[<div>I can begin to understand important motivation and emotion terms. motivation- a need or desire that directs behavior<br>incentive theory- positive or negative environmental stimuli that motivate behavior<br>physiological or psychological<br>   -hunger drives us to eat<br>   -fatigue drives us to rest<br>drive reduction theory- a physical need creates a drive to satisfy the need<br>   -ex: money does not itself satisfy any biological or psychological need, but it reduces other drives on a regular basis simply by the receipt of a paycheck<br>Maslow's hierarchy of needs- pyramid of human needs, each need must be met successfully to move up; ends with self-actualization</div><div><figure class="attachment attachment-preview"><img src="http://www.simplypsychology.org/maslow-pyramid.jpg" width="502" height="369"><figcaption class="caption"></figcaption></figure>hunger drive/ weight disorders- both internal and external reasons for hunger; anorexia, bulimia, and obesity</div><div><br>thirst drive- reduction of fluid in and outside of cell caused by sodium<br>   -reasons for habitual, cultural, and psychogenetic<br>   -lateral and ventromedial hypothalamus<br>sexual response cycle- four stages of sexual responding- excitement, plateau, orgasm <br>need to belong- Harlow; we need people, we have a need for acceptance, we will change our actions to fit in with certain groups<br>achievement motivation- desire for significant accomplishment<br>    -extrinsic- desire to perform a behavior for reward or to avoid   punishment<br>   -intrinsic- desire to perform a behavior for your own sake<br>leadership style:<br>task vs social<br>theory X vs theory Y<br>Industrial organizational psychologist- studies how manager can best enhance the workplace<br>Conflict motivation- sometimes what you want to do in a situation is clear to you, but at other times you no doubt find yourself conflicted about what choice to make<br>approach-approach conflict- occurs when you must choose between two desirable outcomes<br>   -Ex: must choose between 2 of your dream colleges<br>avoidance-avoidance conflict- occurs when you must choose between two unattractive outcomes<br>   -Ex: must choose between cleaning your room or washing dishes<br>approach-avoidance: exists when ONE event or goal has both attractive and unattractive features<br>   -Ex: you got into your dream college, but it is very expensive<br>multiple approach-avoidance conflicts: you must choose between two or more things, each of which has both desirable and undesirable features<br>   -Ex: AP Psychology class is interesting, but is a lot of work<br> AP Biology would help you college, but takes up half your lunch</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I can be prepared to decide which term I want for motivation tomorrow<br>Izard theory- 10 basic emotions, cross-cultural, present in infancy, all other emotions are a combination of the original 10. 6 basic emotions are joy, anger, disgust, surprise, sadness, and fear.&nbsp;<br>Ekman's theory- facial muscles are used to indicate emotion and are universal<br>Duchenne smile- genuine smile- closed eyes, crows feet<br>Standard smile- open eyes<br>Yerkes Dodson theory- optimum stress necessary for optimum performance<br>&nbsp; &nbsp;-too much stress=bad<br>&nbsp; &nbsp;-too little stress= bad<br>&nbsp; &nbsp;-right amount= positive/optimum performance<br>learned motives- form of social motives but learned through modeling/ observation of others<br>1. aggression- intent to inflict harm or pain, connection to learned happiness<br>2. achievement- need to excel or overcome obstacles, highly motivated children and upbringing, "early independence and encouragement", emotional and cognitive roots<br>stimulus motives- unlearned motives that encourage exploration of world, used to obtain info on the world... even when bored<br>benefits of smiling- attractiveness, success, stronger immune system, lower stress, lower age<br>forced smiling- helps control stress, lower heart rates</div>]]></description>
