One of the traditional Banjar dances from South Kalimantan, Indonesia, is called Baksa Kembang. It is performed as a welcome dance (Tari Selamat datang) for visitors. Female dancers typically perform this dance, although the number of dancers must be odd.

Initially, Baksa Kembang was a dance that was only performed in a regal setting to greet distinguished visitors or members of the royal family. But as things changed, the Sultanate of Banjar started to allow the general public to watch this dance performance, which made the Baksa kembang popular in the community and one of the regional cultures in South Kalimantan.

One of Borneo's indigenous peoples are the Dayak, Dyak, or Dayuh. It is an umbrella word covering more than 200 riverine and hill-dwelling ethnic groups, mostly in Borneo's central and southern interior. Each group has its own dialect, customs, laws, territory, and culture, yet there are some easily recognisable commonalities among them all. The Austronesian family of languages includes Dayak languages. The Dayak were animists (Kaharingan and Folk Hindus), but during the 19th century, large numbers of them have converted to Christianity and Islam as a result of the expansion of Abrahamic religions.

Igal-igal is a well-known traditional dance in the Semporna District, particularly among the Bajau and Tausug or Suluk ethnic groups. The Bajaus are referred to as a "sea gipsy" group, whereas the Tausug/Suluk people are regarded as "current people," where "tau" stands for "people" and "sug" for "sea current". Due to the two ethnic groups' geographic proximity to the sea, this dance is well-known among them.

It is sometimes referred to as the "Sea Eagle Dance" or Tarian Helang Laut. The English word "eagle" is where the word "igal" itself comes from. Along with aspects of blowing wind and breaking waves, the dance moves similarly like an eagle in flight.

Groups, couples, or solo performers can all perform igal-igal. Two singers who are spontaneously competing in a quatrain performance typically perform this dance to traditional music. Kulintangan, gong, and tambur are the most common musical instruments.

The Phillipines are where Malaysians first encountered daling-daling, which is thought to have originated in Spain. From the Suluk ethnic group in eastern Sabah, comes this traditional dance. The ethnic Bajau group also enjoys its appeal.

This dance always includes quatrains with the male and female dancers "selling and buying of quatrain" (reciting quatrain and reciprocating). This dance includes the following lines of quatrains:

My lover, my lover oh my lover, my lover

    Till infinite you are curving

Curving to the elbow

    If waving you are sprinkling

Like teardrops scattering

Known as the "My Love, My Love" dance, daling-daling is a popular courtship dance. Young folks in Jolo, Sulu, like it a lot. Since they can participate in the show by singing along with the dancers, the audience also enjoys this dance. There are as many repetitions of the one-sixteenth measure music as are required.

The dancers wear traditional Joloano attire and wield an open fan in each hand with their thumb, fourth, and little fingers on the top side and on the opposite side with their second and third fingers.
Dancers are paired up and positioned about six feet apart, both looking forward, with the female on the right side, as the music plays and everyone sings.

The Wek Jongan Dance is focused on revelation and miracles. It is a Selako or Lara ethnic Bidayuh dance that is performed in West Kalimantan, Indonesia, as well as the Sematan Lundu District of Sarawak.

This dance portrays the tale of Jongan, a young woman who is mourning the loss of her mother. Legend has it that Jongan's father passed away due to an untreatable illness. Because she frequently visited her husband's cemetery and felt so depressed and lonely, Jongan's mother eventually became unwell and passed away. Jongan was left an orphan as a result, and he lived in agony and isolation.

Jongan fell and fainted one day while visiting his mother's cemetery. Jongan imagined his mother singing and dancing to comfort him in such a moment. After waking up, Jongan was overjoyed and went back to the hamlet to teach the residents how to sing and dance, eventually leading to the creation of the Wek Jongan dance.

To engage in combat with a fabled bird known as the Tingkilang Ramang, which translates to a kind of Eagle Spirit, the King of the Pleiadas is supposed to have called upon Madu Sawan. The victor of the conflict would be entitled to marry the king's daughter, Dara Buda, the king stated.

However, Madu Sawan and Tingkilang Ramang were not only superb combatants but also talented dancers. When the chief decides to clear the land and when the offering of eight eggs to the ancestors is complete, this dance will be done.

Hudoq dancers don green-colored clothing in addition to a mask that depicts the characters of destruction, protection, and the ancestor. In addition to being accompanied by the gongs, this dance is distinctive in that the Kancet Ledo dancers also perform while on the gongs.

The Gong Dance tells of the beauty of a female dancing on a gong and the contest between the girl and two Dayak youths. This dance is accompanied by the gong as well as the Sampe, a native Dayak musical instrument.

The Kancet Ledo dance, which represents a woman's tenderness, is a dance that is rich in significance. Dance motions delicately convey the brilliance, tenderness, and beauty of ladies.

Gong Dance's moves capture a girl's sensitivity through her gentle body movements and moving hands. Compared to other dances from East Kalimantan, this one has fewer motions, and the majority of those moves are repeated.
