I would set up a water table or two for use during free play or centers or as a recess option. Small groups of children could explore how water and sound interact and they may even create their own music. Some possible topics they may have questions about or pose theories about are states of matter, pitch, sinking and floating, and/or rhythm and patterns.

Build an Earhtquake Resistant Building

http://www.teachersareterrific.com/search?q=earthquake
I would use this STEM activity with 2nd or 3rd graders. The challenge is to construct a building that can withstand a Jello earthquake. Given various supplies, students would have to use their knowledge of earthquakes and design principles to build a structure that can last. This incorporates Earth science topics like earthquakes and plate tectonics with engineering and collaboration. I could make this more of a movement activity by changing the scale of the activity. The bigger the Jello or something similar, the more possibilities of large-scale construction.

First, I could decide if I want to make the terms or challenges on the muffin paper or if I want students to make them. This could be used to review vocabulary terms for any subject and then students could act out, say, or draw the meaning of that word. Or these could be descriptions of an object that students would have to find (like "something you could use as a tool"). This activity could be adapted for anything from terms review to a creative thinking game.

This could be used in any grade and could be anything from demonstrating the butterfly life cycle to how trees change with the seasons to how animals respond to their environment (migration, adaptation, and hibernation). Not only is this activity fun but it could also be used as an easy assessment tool.

Working with a partner, students are seeking to answer a questions similar to "which movement produces the greatest heart rate (or lowest)?". They could then create their own activities (in place of or in addition to those listed below) which one partner will do for a minute and the other will keep time and record the data. This could lead to discussions on exercise, the function of the heart and other organs, how the experiment could have been changed, fractions, and differences from person to person.

As they are planning how and what to make some questions and discussions may come up concerning design, pitch, types of instruments (percussion, wind, etc), sound, and what sounds sound pleasant together. Students will then present their instruments to the class and name it something unique. We could then have a concert with our instruments where we could write our own songs or use familiar ones. If the interest is still there, we could also study the science of sound, history of instruments and music, or ways to write music.

During centers, students can use Google Earth to explore countries, states, or even their very own hometown.I would have activities they could do along with that like mapping out an area that they are interested in or building a model of a famous landmark. They could also create travel itineraries or pretend to be travelers in the dramatic play area. I would want this activity to be as open ended as Google Earth is.

I would probably use this in a kindergarten or first grade class. I would sing this song and students would toss a ball when I sing that part and jump when I sing that part.
