- I can say 3 things I learned about winter dishes in the Francophone world. 

1. I feel confident being able to use passé composé when talking about pat experiences in detail. Sometimes I do mess up but its silly mistakes because I overthink it. Overall, some practice is always good. 

2. 3 things that I learned about the dishes we studied today was that the potatoes with cheese was eaten during wintertime and originated in France/Switzerland, in the Kings Day Bread they hide a small object and who ever finds it is considered the King, and the soup dish represents freedom. 

Ex: 

I definitely need to practice some of the new vocab words that were introduced to us today, but other than that I feel confident.

2. I can identify elements of nature.

1. What did you understand from the cabbage video and from the infographics? What strategies did you use to understand what was going on?

From the cabbage video I understood that most of the time when people see something wrong such as a small piece of mold on produce or food they usually throw it away instead of taking the bad part off. The strategies I used to understand what was going on was trying to see the tone of voice they would use and how the cabbages were being portrayed.

It is crazy to think that three years ago, I only knew how to say hello and my name is in French. Junior year has flown by so quickly and it is sad to think that I am almost a Senior in high school. However, I am very happy with the progress I have made this year and I am looking forward to improving my skills next year and pushing myself even further.

At the beginning of the school year, I struggled having conversations with my group mates. I was very shy because I knew no one in class so I held myself back a lot of the time. As the year has progressed, I have become a lot better at working in groups and having conversations with my classmates. I am able to listen to what they are saying, ask follow up questions, and respond back to them. Looking back at my padlet, I was able to see how much my writing has improved and how much more comfortable I have become writing in French. At the beginning of the school year, I was writing basic sentences with not a lot of detail. Now I am able to write longer sentences with more details and include the vocabulary we have been learning. Although I make some mistakes in my writing, I feel more comfortable with making a mistake, looking back at the comments, and then seeing what I did wrong so I can correct it for the next time. 

My goals at the beginning of the school year  were to not give up, become more comfortable asking for help if I didn’t understand something, and to work on adding details to my answers. For this semester my goal was to practice my writing skills because I started to notice that I was struggling on spelling certain words and would have a hard time starting the sentences off. As time has passed, I do think that I have met my year goals.  I believe that I have met them because everytime we have conversations with our classmates in the beginning of class I can respond to the check in questions, add details, and answer the follow up question my partner is asking me. In addition, taking two honor language courses was a struggle but I did not give up and I was able to balance my time in order to complete all my work. I have also been more comfortable using academic collaboration or going up to Madame during and after class if I need some clarification. One goal that I didn't meet was my semester goal, which was practicing my writing skills. Although we did some practice in class I felt like I should have been doing more practice outside of class to become more confident in my ability to write in French. My goal has changed because now I want to make it a priority to do some writing practice each week in addition to class time so that I can feel prepared for class and the AP exam. 

Taking French this year has taught me that I appreciate having a good challenge. Taking an honors French class was a scary feeling because I didn't know if I would be able to understand anything and I feared that the class would be going too fast. However, that was not the case. The class pushed me to work harder and study even more in order to understand the material and tests. Something I have most enjoyed this year was check ins before class and when learning new vocabulary doing quizlet live. I enjoyed these two things because it was a lot of fun coming together as a class and helping each other get better at French. Personally, I felt like check ins and quizlet live helped me the most when we had to practice the learning skills. Also they were both so much fun because we could talk to each other and the whole class would get super competitive. A project that I am most proud of was a project I did with Mari for National French Week. I was really proud of what we came up with for our hypothetical trip to Montreal because it was one of the first times where we had to do research and put our organization skills to the test. In addition, we also had to make sure it looked professional and that our classmates could understand our video. The strong points of this project was adding details to the video to explain why we wanted to visit each place. We practiced our speaking skills and we made sure that we included visuals to match up with what we were saying. 

A couple of things that I have learned about France and other French speaking countries that I will remember and use in other parts of my life are to keep in mind food waste and ways I can help reduce food waste, to always keep an open mind when it comes to other’s cultures and traditions, and that there are always similarities between people even if you don't live in the same country. By taking French I have learned that I love learning about different cultures. I hope to someday travel and learn more about the francophone world and other parts of the world. I have also learned that I love learning a new language because it has been amazing learning how to connect with others through a language. As a student, I have learned that I enjoy taking risks and having a good challenge in front of me. Learning French is not easy but once I let the fear of making a mistake go I was able to enjoy French so much more. I like being tested on my speaking, writing, and comprehension skills because I am able to see how much progress I have made and what are some things I have to go back to. 

Since I have been taking both Spanish and French this year, one of the challenges I faced was getting the two languages confused. In addition, sometimes I had a hard time when it came to using vocabulary because it would be hard to prioritize reviewing the words constantly. However, I was able to overcome both these challenges. After the first unit of French, I found it easier to separate Spanish from French and I was even able to use some of the skills we used in French to help me in Spanish. In addition, I learned how to use my time correctly in order to review vocabulary so that I could feel confident in class. I was also able to overcome my shyness and break out of my shell. I started to talk to more of my classmates and even became an officer for the French Honors Society. Learning another language such as French will help me in the future if I want to become an immigration lawyer. I will use my French skills if I ever need to translate or have a conversation with someone who does not speak English. Due to French, I have learned more about other people's culture and have gained the skills of using context clues to figure out something if I don't understand, how to have conversations and hold them, and practice active listening. Next year I am looking forward to preparing myself for the AP exam. I am also looking forward to our National French Week project and planning activities for Mardi Gras. Lastly, I am excited to see the growth I have made since French 1. I know that it is going to be a lot of hard work but I am ready for next year and learning more skills and learning more about the francophone world.
