Tim Burton, in Edward Scissorhands, uses low key lighting in order to set a sinister tone for the setting. For example, when Peg goes upstairs in Edward’s house, she finds him in a dark corner, which is when the low key lighting was used. By making Edward seem scary, it causes relief after, to see that he does no harm.
