I believe Shays was a hero for starting this rebellion. Because of his anger for putting his fellow farmers into prison because they were unable to pay their taxes, he started this rebellion to prevent other farmers to be sentenced as well. This caused Congress to realize the way the Articles of Confederation was supposed to aid leading America, was in actuality, tearing the economy apart. The goal of this was seen, and in addition, we know he was a good and noble man due to his actions and deeds to help America in the past. This fight against taxes led to farmers not being sent to jail, and making the government realize this Article of Confederation was not sustainable.

He rebelled and eventually saved the farmers who were imprisoned and showed that there were weaknesses in The Articles of Confederation. But from the governments point of view, he was a villain. He led a violent rebellion that could have been peaceful. If he had pursued long enough, the government might have let the farmers go without any deaths. But he chose to go violent, causing multiple people on both sides to perish. So, it just depends how you look at it.

Shay was a hero. He stood up for his and other peoples rights, not caring about the consequences. He knew that the government had no right to take land from these people who work hard on it. Especially because they were doing it from money, for there problems. He did what he thought was right with confidence, that is a true hero.

I believe Daniel Shay was a hero. He wanted to free the farmers who had been locked up for not being able to pay their taxes. He was a true friend. He showed the government their weakness. They need to make their central government stronger to handle issues like this. Because of Shay's rebellion it became clear that the Articles of Confederation would not work for the USA.
