The industrial revolution was a time period where factories took over the city's and polluted the land. It began in Great Britain, where a number of technological advances increased quality of life and lead to a population boom that would continue into the 20th and 21st centuries. A wave of migration into cities from rural areas begins. Factories needed lots of space and since there were a lot of factories for different goods, they would take up a lot of land.

Railways were used and still are used by a lot of people. They need tracks which take up a lot of land. Since trains go from mainly city to city, thats a lot of miles the tracks take up for farming or other activities. The tracks are also pretty expensive. One mile of track can cost 1 to 2 million dollars which is also wasting money which is made from trees. The trains output of dioxide and carbon dioxide can effect the lad around the railways and kill the environment. This is a map of the main railways in Virginia. As you can see it takes up quite a lot of space for a type of transportation.

The climate patterns led to dramatic crop failures in tropical areas around the world. At least 30 million people died as a result in Brazil, India, and China. When a drought happens it doesn't just ruin a tiny place of land, it ruins acres and acres of land which than can not be used to farm during the drought. It leads the land to be dry and empty.

Colonial governor William Penn's Charter of Rights, he requires Pennsylvania settlers to preserve one acre of trees for every five acres cleared. This is helping the city to still have trees inside of it which helped Pennsylvania to be a city and still be beneficial to the environment. William influenced many governors to do the same as him. Over 200 years later, the U.S. held its first urban planning conference in New York.

Hole in the Ozone Layer (1985)

Scientists confirms that there is a hole in the ozone layer. Two years later, the international community addresses the growing hole by agreeing to phase out chlorofluorocarbon production and use under the Montreal Protocol. Since the ozone layer has a hole in it, sun rays such as ultraviolet that dont usually get past the ozone, now do. Ultraviolet rays are harmful to the planet and the environment on it including us humans.
