"I say, let your affairs be as two or three, and not a hundred or a thousand; instead of a million count half a dozen and keep your accounts on your thumb-nail." - Henry David Thoreau.
-
This quote displays the second tenet of transcendentalism because Thoreau wants people to live a life that is focused on a few things that concern themselves not the hundreds of things going on in the outer world.

Walter Whitman´s ¨O Me! O Life¨ was a piece that essentially asked what the purpose of living was. Whitman answers his question and shockingly declared that it doesn't matter how ridiculous something is. What matters is simply contributing. Similarly, in Dead Poet´s Society the motivation of Carpe Diem or seize the day gives the same advice of doing something for the sake of doing it.

I will contribute to the powerful play that goes thundering on by involving myself in as many genres as I can. No actor should be typecast into one role. The only way to make a meaningful impact is to experience everything possible. A life of routine is easily forgettable and my verse will be the discarded draft from the beginning of a symphony never to be sung. I don't want a story of "almost" and "what-ifs" of events I could have experienced. My verse will be the firm decisions and confident choices that become the bellowing voice inspiring others to leave their routine and take control of their own life.
