1820- Had 21 missions with 20,000 Natives living with them1821- Mexico gained independence and California became a state in the new Mexico nation
1833- Mexican government passed a law stopping the missions
1840- Families arrive from Missouri on the Oregon Trail
1840- John C. Fremont wrote about the region's mild climate, scenic beauty, and abundance of Natural resources
1845- Population: 700
1846- Small group of Americans seized the town of Sonoma, which became the Bear Flag Repulic
1847- California fully controlled by the U.S.
1848- Population: 20,000
1849- 80,000 people came looking for Gold
1849- Chose representatives to write the Constitution
1850- Applied to Congress for statehood
1851- Land Law set up group of people to review the Californios' land rights
