Week 1 Lecture: A guide to the energy of the earth

When hearing the lecture for this week I had already been taught this but I have forgotten many of these facts that are very interesting and really good to know. The one topic that caught my attention was remembering the top renewable sources of energy which are wind, water, geothermal, and biofuel which also can create electricity. This really caught my attention because I had completely forgotten how renewable sources of energy naturally replenish and don't run out which is amazing for the environment. Listening to this lecture was very helpful as it got me started with this class refreshing my knowledge on renewable sources which has always been very important to the environment because of it being a resource which is technically a unlimited supply as it be replenished. The importance of it is how it can generate energy that doesn't produce greenhouse gas emission from fossil fuels.

Week 2 Lecture: Top 10 reasons NOT to move to Miami

I listened to the lecture of the top 10 reason why you shouldn't move to Miami and as a person that lives in Miami many of the things that were said I hadn't noticed as much as I did when listening to the video. In the video it was mentioned that Miami has many rude people, the cost of living, people don't know how to drive and there is always traffic, construction seems like it never ends, and parking is always full in adventurous places such as the malls and restaurant's by the beach or downtown. I agree with the first of 5 as Miami does have all these negative things the main one for me is how people literally don't know how to drive and everywhere you go takes 10 minutes longer than what the gps says just cause of how much traffic there is. The other things mentioned in the video were that weather in Miami isn't good as winter is nonexistent, people don't know what punctuality is, housing price is horrendous, the spring break madness take place in Miami, and that Miami has a lot of crime higher than many other places. I disagree with the weather I actually like the Miami weather but that is because I highly dislike the winter. I do agree with all the other stuff as I can understand how that would make Miami a place where you wouldn't want to move to Miami but in my opinion I love this place and I did never change it for anything else. Living in Miami right now is a roller coaster of emotions as it has many qualities for example the best weather, food, and beaches but the downfall is many people have migrated which has inflated price a lot and that has affected very single social class the poor, middle, and even the rich. Miami can be compared to what New York use to be before corona virus started which was everybody would go as a tourist and come back to live.

Week 3 Lecture: Food waste is contributing to climate change

The food loss and waste is outrageous my opinions had always been very strong towards it I believe that the community should always try it's best to not throw away so much food away but "food loss and waste" is very complexed. Food waste is responsible for about 8 percent of global greenhouse emissions which is a very serious thing with how important this is towards our environment and we have to try to do our best in avoiding of polluting the environment. The biggest concerns of this is that food waste is suffering a 30 percent lost by farmers before being transferred or produced to the manufacturers and wholesalers. From personal experience before groceries got very expensive my family would normally over buy food items that eventually would be thrown away which proves that many other consumers probably do the same which shows why consumers are the biggest effect of food waste as particularly comes from consumers. A lot of consumers throw away food because of expiration dates that doesn't really mean food expires it actually mean that's when the manufacturer promises the best quality of the item. A lot of food waste and loss has been controlled in the farmers aspects from small nonprofitable organization that pick up the waste and donate them to people who don't have homes by doing this they have recovered around 250,000 of foods. This lecture made realize how much food actually gets wasted with many people in third world countries starving because they don't have the resources to acquire food but the good part of this is that their is people striving to make a change and they slowly are. Food waste is definitely going to get worse in my opinion because the world is surrounded by evolution but with people who are making organization that its function is help reduce these losses is very important for our environment and gives us a lot of hope.

Week 4 Lecture: The 4 greatest threat to the survival of humanity

When watching the video I was really shocked when hearing that one of the greatest disasters in Earth almost happened 28 years ago when Russia detected a nuclear bomb coming it's way but it ended up being a false alarm as it was a research study and not something real. This occurred after the cold war this made me think that it did probably be the end of the world if something like that would take place. Another thing that has the power to be a great threat could be a atomic bomb that was invented and almost led to a global nuclear war during a winter which would have been one of the biggest catastrophic in human civilization. I believe that both of these threats could of had the power to destroy many things. In my opinion the worst threat to humans is the one we all lived not too long ago which was a pandemic this turnout very bad for many people I have many friends that lost one of their closest family members because of this. The last threat that is very popular right now in this new generation has been artificial intelligence which is very cool how they have the power to make a singer sing someone else song but once you look at the bigger picture and realize the power that this has it could be a very bad ending as it can technically frame innocent people as people who harm others. This lecture shocked me as I was viewing the 4 greatest threat to humans and each one made me realize they technically have the power to clear civilization if they wanted. As a human knowing that there is threats like these is very scary even though all these can happen present day many things did have to change.

Week 5 Lecture: The Story of Electronics

I listened to the lectured titled " The story of Electronics" this opened my eyes as I noticed every little detail they mentioned about electronics were true. During the video the narrator said the electronics in present day are super expensive and do tend to break easier but way harder to replace which is a very true reality as I have lived this a few times. I have had smart phones of mines break and replacing them were outrageously expensive at the point it was just worth it to go buy a new one. This opened my eyes as I recognized maybe this happens on purpose so the consumers keeps buying new product every once in a while. Moore's law show that they have the potential to fasten the processor speed every 18 month's. This lecture has speaks about how every year 25 million tons of E-waste gets burned or recycled every year. In the world we live in right now electronics are very important when I refer to electronics I include it all smartphone, smart-watches, and smart-tv which these are the most used obviously other than computers. The electronics have became very important in the sense that the world moves around it for example students have to use them to complete assignments and many business owners depend on a phone to close a deal or to make one. All of this has a created a demand which the owners of these brands noticed and have perfected it to such a extend that technically every 2-3 years we need a new phone or a newer tv because of "better features".

Week 6 Lecture MON: Consider the impact of burning coal and petroleum on human health. What are the major health concerns associated with the use of these fossil fuels, and how can they be addressed?

Considering the impact of burning coal and petroleum on human health isn't very hard to realize that these are two factor's that can have a very negative effect on human. One of the effects it can have it can create climate changes in which this normally releases a pollutant that can lead to a very early death. A climate change can cause very bad effects on human's such as heart attacks, respiratory disorders, strokes, asthma, and absenteeism. As humans many times we think we are untouchable but sadly we aren't an those who work in factories that have to burn coal it's a very risky job as the employees health are in jeopardy and you are changing health for money. According to research around 50,000 people unfortunately pass away from side effects of burning coal.

Week 6 Lecture WED: In Miami, how art intersects with technology and climate changes

I listened to the lecture titled "In Miami, how art intersects with technology and climate change" and I was very impressed as many times I have driven by Wynwood and seen these murals with animals and always wondered if they had a message. When listening to the lecture I was very impressed as the lady who is a entrepreneur had no degree in art or science and still has been very successful with these murals. Each mural represent a animal which can be one who is going in extinction or one that is very popular and should be protected because it can be extinct. They created a software that you can download via your mobile phone which let's you see the mural in a 3D form and it helps get a better representation of why this mural was created. During the lecture it was said that if it's predicted that by 2070 Miami can suffer flooding everyday this is very shocking as I wouldn't be surprised as we have to take care of our environment because the most minimum harmful activity can cause a harmful changes in our environment. I found this lecture very interesting as someone who had no background in neither art or science was able to combine them and make such a good cause of it. It's very interesting to learn about these topics as I came in this class not knowing much on these topics and I am leaving very educated.
