-In any lesson using this approach it is necessary to incorporate four basic communicative skills, namely: reading, listening, speaking and writing. 
-When creating tasks, teacher should use his/her discretion to promote either basic interpersonal communication skills (BICS) or Cognitive Academic Language Proficiency (CALP). In schools where English is a Language Of Teaching and Learning (LOLT) it is important to develop CALP.
-Fluency and accuracy are important, when a teacher creates an activity he/she should consider whether it is fluency based or accuracy based.
-This approach requires learners to participate actively, it is learner-centered. Learners should have an opportunity to speak the target language extensively, this means it is important to pair learners and group them for these lessons. 
-Tasks performed in class should enable the learner to communicate in real life situations, and for this to happen learners need to have internalised grammar rules subconsciously because when speaking its impossible to think of every rule.
