Hanging posters of food items in the dramatic play area. As the children are playing and pretending to cook, they can refer to the poster and recognize the food item with the spelling of each word. Providing children with a clipboard with paper and pencil to re-enact taking food orders.

In our daycare we change out our word wall each month to coincide with the words we will and are learning in that specific theme. Hanging the word wall in a neutral place so the kids can use it for various play.

A birthday wall is a great way to get the children excited about literacy, especially when they see their names and birth date. They are happy to share this with their friends, and it sparks conversation.
