To fix her problem she decided to enter the Little Miss Central Flordia Tire Contest, because if she won she would get $1,975. She would use the money to get her cat back and she'd have enough to feed him too.

For example, the text states," ' we had to take Archie to the Very Friendly Animal Center because we couldn't afford ti feed him anymore,' said Louisiana."(Dicamillo,20)

Another way she could fix this problem is by fundraising. For example she could have yard sales, lemonade stands, bake sales etc.

In the picture, Louisiana is in Ida Nee's baton twirling class and is thinking about Archie.According to the text, She even said " Archie,i'm sorry, i'm sorry I betrayed you." (Dicamillo,2)

She realized the way that they did it, did not seem correct.

A signpost that I found was a word gap. The example is that the author explained how Gitanjali can talk easily about carbon nanotubes and Arduino processors. The Author expected us to know what Carbon Nanotubes and Arduino processors were.

Do I know this Word from someplace else?
- No
Does this seem like technical talk for experts about this topic?
- yes
Can I find clues in the sentence to help understand the word?
- no

Heidi's Grandfather lives at the top of the hill and is described as mysterious, grumpy and not very friendly.

Heidi's Grandpa reminds me of the Grinch because they both live at the top of a hill away from all people, they are both grumpy and not very friendly, and they both are considered unsafe to be around by the townspeople.

However, Heidi's Grandpa has changed. He was actually quite friendly with her towards the end of my reading time today.

He thought the commute down to town would not be safe for her in the harsh winter conditions. This shows that Heidi's grandfather is not a bad man after all, because he cares enough not to make her have to walk down to town and go to school.

I find it a little strange that in most books the biological parents of the main character could not take care of them. So, they were sent to live with somebody else. This occurs in books like " The Book Thief", "Huckleberry Finn", " The Series of Unfortanate Events".
