For the E-portfolio, I had to first make a Padlet. I had never used Padlet before but it was easy enough to use once I watched the instructional videos. I had already used Pinterest before just to get ideas to change up my wardrobe at the time. 'Pocket' was also new to me, but the app is easy to use and especially useful for saving articles that I want to come back to. Using Pocket is a lot better than just bookmarking using google chrome due to the extra features that Pocket provides like text–to–speech and the instant sharing feature straight to other social media like Facebook. Social media tools are useful for supporting my online engagement. Websites like Padlet are great for organisation and help keep all added information in one place. This information is easily accessible and makes the overall process of being a digital citizen smoother. By allowing other people to have access to social media tools like Padlet and google drive the “collaborative authoring” (Fulton & McGuinness) process is smoother. This shows how useful these tools are for working as part of a group on assignments. By using these tools finding curating information is uncomplicated. As a digital citizen blogs can be a great way to find information. Twitter is known as a "microblog" (Brown, 2012). Due to the small word count format of Twitter, it can be a thorough source of information for current events. Publishing information on Twitter is also quite simple and there are no real barriers to posting on Twitter. I decided to do my assignment on Pubs in Ireland as it is relevant to people my age as well as tourists that may visit Ireland as Irish people are associated with drinking alcohol when it comes to stereotypes. I first populated my Padlet with different pubs in Dublin then expanded to pubs in Ireland. One of the pubs that stood out to me was the oldest thatch pub in Ireland called ‘The Crosskeys Inn’ (O’Hara, 2022). A previous assignment was part of a group, where we had to make a portrait of Maurice Dockrell as part of our assessment. The use of social media tools was especially useful as we were all researching various parts of his life. Therefore, any information found that is not useful for one member of the team can be useful for another member. The most difficult part of the assignment was making the Map. It required many steps that had to be correct for the map to make sense. Making the YouTube video was hard. Editing was new to me so using it took me a minute to get used to but once I got in the flow and understood what the main symbols/ buttons did I got slightly easier. This assignment helped improve my digital literacy skills as well as learning to work efficiently throughout the assignment so that I do not feel rushed and flustered closer to a deadline. I also learned a lot of interesting facts about one of the Irish people's favourite past times. Learning to use Padlet was straightforward. However, pocket did not seem to be useful when doing research for pubs in Ireland due to the lack of a search feature in the discover tab. Bibliography Brown, S. (2012).
