The insinuation that because something has been around since ancient times or is rooted in an ancient culture it is proof of validity.

An example is Maharishi Ayurveda. An alternative medicine system founded in the 1980s. It is based on Ayruvedq, an ancient Indian medical system. Maharishi Ayurveda has no foundation in science, but claims to use knowledge from ancient Vedic literature.

When the pseudoscience talks of "chi", "chakras", or any other sort of untenable energy. This is often seen beside the Ancient Wisdom red flag in cases of alternative medicine.

Examples of this are; Ayurveda, acupuncture, naturopathy and crystal healing. All of which are forms of alternative medicine that allude to Mystical Energy with effects on the health of the human body.

Reason for Belief: Simplicity

People naturally want to understand things. And because of this they will often go after the simplest, easy to understand answer. Pseudoscience generally gives easier to understand answers to questions than true science, or it gives answers to things that do not have yet have a definitive answer.

An example of this sort of thinking is belief in creationism over evolution. Many people believe in creationism because it is easier to believe that humans were simply created as they are, rather than coming about through circumstance. This clip from The Simpsons illustrates my example somewhat.

Ideologies are sets of ideas, and the term is mostly associate*d with religious and political ideologies. Some examples are Feminism, Communism, Anarchism for the political side, and Christianity, Buddhism and Islam for the religious side.

People are very attached to their ideologies, and this causes bias. For example, a Humanist may be more likely to take a misleading study regarding the goodness in human beings at face value.
