Active (Manipulative/Observant)

Active (Manipulative/Observant) kind of learning where the person learning is involved and it is a hands-on experience. Personally, this is my favorite type of learning and the best way I learn as a student. Seeing the material visually and being able to learn by doing an activity helps a lot. One experience of this would be in math, the teacher could have a bake sale of converting the measurements learned in the lesson; for example converting ounces to cups while baking. Another personal example would be how learning to drive we had to practice with our parents before being by ourselves to experience and learn how to on our own.

Constructive (Articulative/Reflective) kind of learning is the learning where when someone learns something by observing and understanding the material. One personal experience would be when professors give me a text to read or video to watch and then with the information that we learned on our own, have an open discussion about what the text or video was about. Another personal example would be learning how to play basketball. First, someone has to watch and then teach themselves the rules.

Cooperative (Collaborative/Conversational) kind of learning is where the people learning work together to learn material given. By using both perspectives of both people, sometimes this can be much easier to understand the material by learning a different way to look at the information. One personal example of this would be being in group projects growing up and all working towards the similar goal and material being covered. Another example would be having older people helping with what the professor or teacher assigns and using them who took the course or has gone before you know what to expect.

Authentic (Complex/Contextual) kind of learning is where the person learning is involved in something that occurs in the real world. Learning ways in which real things happen and putting them into perspective. One example of this would be in science when I was younger, my teacher would always add an experiment along with what we were learning to help us understand how it worked in real time and outside of the classroom. Another experience would be in Physical Education class in middle school, learning about health and wellness of the body and running or doing yoga to experience what was happening.

Intentional (Goal-directed/Regulatory) kind of learning is where the person learning has an idea of what specifically they want to come out of the material that is being taught. One personal example of this would be how teachers would often be preparing us for the test, exam, quiz, or presentation all semester long. Another personal example would be completing school. Going to school for 12 years and then eventually graduating is the long term goal from the material learned.
