One thing that surprised me was that the article states that Adol Hitler may have manipulated the fact of herd mentality to make crwods cheer for him. this would be done by placing people in the crowd that were in support of him to cheer enthusiastically, causing the crowd to cheer everytime. as well, this made everyone seem more supportive when it was broadcast to a larger group, because the crowd cheered people thought what he said was ok, and something to be supported.

The article says that people follow a crowd because their brains get confused on what it hears vs what others tell it. This connects to herd mentality because if someone told you their opinion on a topic; you may agree with it. For example if we were discussing sports teams and you said that you liked the Patriots, I probably would agree with you even though that may not be my true opinion. Another reason people may "Follow the Crowd," is because they are afraid of what might happen if the really speak up.

TikTok is used by teenagers around the ages of 12-18, their brains are only 80% developed and this process can reach into their early 30s until fully complete. But it still surprised me that so many kids would participate in things like eating a laundry pod, climbing up milk cartons, and even choking themselves until they passed out!

This experiment was to explain that if videos have a lot of likes, others will continue to like them. This makes me think about our society today because so many people use TikTok, and Instagram; but we also want to be part of the "cool" group. This surprises me because people shouldn't lie about themselves to fit in with groups who don't represent who they really are. They should tell the truth and not be afraid to find a group that shares that same qualities as them. Something that also surprises me is that social media can impact so many safety issues and trends that people do. People can get injured from these trends, but other people do it even when they know what happened to those people. Other people do it so they can fit in with the trend and be recognized by people who don't represent who they are.

The article says that herd mentality is widely followed in the world right now because of the popularity social media has, to add on to this I can say from experience this is very true for me because I can't even think of one person or friend who doesn't have social media that I know in my life. However, because of its popularity, it has one of the biggest impacts on social life and this is being used in a contagious way. One trend starts off and everyone wants to do it and be like it and then the next one comes and everything before that is forgotten. Everyone wants to be someone else and this can become even worse than it is right now if people were to make it.

This is because in the lottery it very much describes what a herd mentality is like, and what people will do without even questioning why they are doing it when they are apart of the herd mentality. For example, by the end of this story it reveals that this town follows very old tradition, which there is no real reason to continue to follow. However, people are scared to speak out against because they may receive consequences or be rejected.

Spencer's family doesn't have a lot of money so he isn't dressed the way the kids in Beverly Hills do. Spencer feels out of place and doesn't feel any conformity.

We can solve the problem of people trying to be someone else by not being afraid to show how we really behave, our religion and showing our beliefs. We can do this by just having one person make that change because once on person does it the rest will do it too. So we can solve this problem by just coming together and show who we really are without trying to fit in with others who don't act the way you really act.

This trend caused a lot of safety problems, but people kept doing it because they wanted to be like everyone else who did it, so they could fit it. This caused a lot of people to get severely injured and people kept doing it even though they knew that many people have go hurt.

What this article says about herd mentality is that people will go to extreme lengths to feel apart of or gain acceptance from a group. It says this by giving examples of some of the trends that people who use social media have partaken in. Such as ingesting tide pods, a spoonful of cinnamon and other dangerous actions that will most likely cause great harm. People do this just because they see a larger group of people doing it, so they believe that it is a good idea for them to participate in it as well, even if it is going against all of their common sense.

The article says that herd mentality is: when people follow the crowd because of what they see, even when they have different answers or ideas. I know this because the article talks about how Tony changed his test answer when he was under the influence of other people than when he was by himself. This means that people follow the crowd even when they have different answers because Tony followed what other people were saying even when they didn't have the same answer as him. Another example of my claim (people follow the crowd because of what they see even when they have different ideas) is when Berns used MRI. In the article, it talks about how after the result of the experiments he hooks up subjects to an MRI to see what they are thinking when making a decision. The results were that the brain decides by using its vision. This shows that vision is used to make decisions, even when they have different answers or ideas because based on Berns's experiments we know that the brain uses vision to make a decision, and when you see people are making different decisions than you, you will agree with them.

For example, this specific study was a group of people who were asked to say how many times they thought the dot moved. The true answer was that the dot was not moving at all, however when the people were then put together each of their individual answers changed and they all conformed their responses to fit the group. I found this interesting because it showed what people will do when put in a group situation, and how they will agree with the group answer even if they know its wrong.

This connects to the article because Tony decided to follow the majority of people when answering the questions. Just like how humans have decided to follow the majority of people and not like the magical creatures.

What can be done to solve this issue is that you need to make your own decisions and stick to those decisions. A way to help that is to have confidence in yourself, and not doubt your sense of judgment/your answers. For example, if Tony had listened to himself when answering the test then he would have scored a 90%. Another way to help that is to stay off of social media or other influences that push ideas onto you. Or feel like you have to listen to what other people tell you, even if they are not putting pressure on you. For example, if everyone was like Graham, and had trusted themselves even when people were answering differently than him, then they would have gotten a better score on the test. So overall what can be done to solve this issue is that you need to make your own decisions by being confident in yourself, and not feeling/having any peer pressure put on you. You can do this by following the example of Graham.

Follow The Crowd: What does the article (Why Do People Participate in Dangerous Viral Challenges) say about herd mentality?

The article says that herd mentality happens in social media; like TikTok. One example of herd mentality that happens in TikTok is people doing dangerous TikTok trends. The article explains why teens do these TikTok trends. One example of why, is that teens want to fit in/belong somewhere. I know this because the article talks about how TikTok challenges can go 'viral' very fast. And when that does more and more people do it, putting them into a community. This means that teens do TikTok trends because they want to fit in, even if they hurt themselves in the process. Another example of why teens do dangerous TikTok trends is because their brains aren't fully developed, meaning that they can't make correct decisions. I know this because the article talks about how teen's brains don't fully develop till they are 25 years old. And when your brain isn't fully developed you can't understand the real dangers of these TikTok challenges. This means that teens do TikTok challenges because their brains aren't fully developed, meaning that they can't understand the danger, and they can't make good choices. So overall the article explains why teens do dangerous TikTok trends, which are that teen's brains aren't fully developed, and teens want to fit in.

Something interesting or surprising about this article is that the Ice Bucket Trend was for charity, and raised 155 million dollars in just two weeks. This surprised me because 115 million dollars is a lot of money to make in 2 weeks. This interested me because I didn't know that the Ice Bucket Trend was for charity, so now I'm thinking about what other trends are for charity on TikTok. So overall this article surprised and interested me because the Ice Bucket Trend was for charity, and made 115 million dollars in two weeks.

He ends up getting hurt because of it. This connects to the article because it talks about how teens do dangerous TikTok trends and end up getting hurt.

Something that can be done to solve this issue is that TikTok can ban all of the dangerous TikTok trends. I know this because the article states that TikTok banned the dangerous 'milk crate' TikTok trend. This means that if TikTok can ban one trend then it can ban another dangerous trend, so that kids can't do dangerous TikTok trends. Another way we could solve this problem is to inform teens what the dangers of TikTok trends and social media. I know this because you could do this by having schools teach about social media. Or spread the word, and get parents to teach their kids about the dangers of TikTok, and social media as a whole. This means that you could teach kids about social media, so they will make the correct choice, and not participate in dangerous TikTok trends.

From my present-day society, the article makes me think about people following medical advice on social media. I think this because this article talks about how people follow dangerous TikTok trends because they want to fit in. And when people (usually teens or young adults) follow medical advice on social they do it so that they can reach their desired health. This means that they follow this advice, without even knowing if the 'doctors' are real doctors; making it dangerous. Overall this article makes me think about following medical advice because (usually) teens are doing something dangerous, to get a result. Whether that is to fit in or be healthy.

One thing we can do is think is this ok to do would people be mad or hurt is it eleagal and is it resonable. If somthing small happens like a Tik Tok video about bad stuff goes viral you should not do it also because you could get into trouble.
