Commander Data figure out what the meaning of those two words is. Both Captain Picard and Dathon are in a sticky situation when they transport to a place outside of their ships and Picard is comparing what's happening to them to the words that Dathon used and taking educated guesses at what they mean and Dathon either agrees or disagrees with what Picard says to confirm whether or not he's right.
