Page: 137
Panel(s): 2-8

I choose these panels since they displayed the first time Marji's grandmother ever got angry with her. I was especially surprised when she called her a "selfish bitch", because we've only known her to be kind and inspiring before this chapter. I think it shows how sometimes not everything is to be taken lightly, or for a joke. Since you never know how it may affect/offend someone else.

Page: 79
Panel: 7
This is my favorite panel in the book because it's common in every girl's life. Heartbreak tends to lead to becoming stronger and more independent. This has an impact on Marjane because she now has more experience in her love life and will now be more aware. Some may think that trust issues can be very awful and controlling, but sometimes it saves you from situations that you shouldn't take place in first of all.

Kayla Owens
Page: 171-173
panel: 5
I chose these page because I find it interesting how much Marjane has changed. Growing up and into her teenage years she was always loved reading and educating herself. She loved to learn. But on page 171 and in these 8 panels you can see how much she has changed, she's been laying on the couch all day watching tv. She's has no interest for anything else anymore, her marriage has made her depressed to the point where she has no motivation anymore. But then on the next two pages she realizes that she needs a change in her life. On page 173 panel 5 she changed her life, for the better. She's no longer sulking and depressed, she begins educating herself again.

Page:52
Panel:8
This is my favorite panel in the book because we could never stay away from our parents for that long. This was the first time in a while since she has seen her mother. I thought it was crazy how on page 46, panel 8 her mother barely recognized her. Throughout the chapter you can tell that she missed her mother a lot and her mother coming to visit her definitely help her with her misery of isolation. This is my favorite panel on page 52 because she said how her mother left her with a bag of affection which will sustain her for several months and I thought that was a very sweet way to end the chapter off.

Page 33
Panel 6
I believe this is truly when the young innocent Marji was reborn into the selfish bitch as her grandmother would soon call her. This moment when she has had her first real interaction with sexual behavior was the true turning point in the it is what lead to every conflict after this moment.

I find this to be a defining moment for Marjane. Although there are many examples of her growth as an individual, I believe this is when she finally has an understanding of what it means to be human, compassionate, and like those that came before her.

I chose this picture because this was the heart of the chapter. This was when the guardians of the revolution arrived with buses, indicating a raid. She had to act fast or else she would get taken away especially because of the lipstick she was wearing. She had a plan to distract them by saying a guy was saying bad things to her.

I honestly find this part so sad because an innocent man was being blamed for something he didn't do. Now I don't know if he is a killer or maybe a doctor. But I do know that he most likely has family and people that may care for him.

These people are none to play with and they could have ended up doing very terrible things such as <del>killing him.</del> All she had to do was wipe the makeup off. But she decided to be selfish and lie and ruin his name. And what we even worse was that her boyfriend was laughing with her. She didn't seem to care about that man's life being in danger. Not one bit.

Marjane felt like her life had no meaning so she decided to end it. Thankful she failed but it doesn't change the fact that she was so deep in depression and so distanced and alone from everyone else that she attempted to take her life.It just goes to show how treatment from others can affect someone
