5th grade loves being able to look back at their past units. It is such a great reflection point for them at the beginning of the year.

What’s Working:

It is a great time for kids to reflect on their learning.

Great way to share their learning with families and younger students.

Easy to get new ones for new students.

What is not working?

What is the procedure when kids move? How do we get them to them?

Could we color code the reflection sheets by grade level? It would make it easier for kids to find the different grade levels.

If a student is chronically absent and does not have an artifact or is not able to reflect due to absences, what should we do for the reflection?

The reflection sheet needs some work. It needs some differentiation for the reflection for struggling students.

I struggle with making enough time to do them well.

Sometimes the reflections seem hard for the kids to do and/or articulate. It might be good for them to be in more kid-friendly language or even allow them to pick questions to answer to better showcase their learning.

1st grade portfolios

What is working:

The exchange process this year was awesome! We loved sharing and learning from second graders.

Sharing their learning experiences with pictures and photographs. They love looking at this "scrapbook" of learning over the years.

What isn't working:

Managing and differentiating the portfolio choices by myself for each student. This task is extremely time consuming and hard to stay organized. I would LOVE additional adult support when it's time to reflect in portfolios since writing is challenging for them at this age.

It is hard to include artifacts that were done on the computer since students don't have printing access. ...this is especially time consuming if students are allowed the freedom to choose the artifact they are including.

Maybe eliminate the first section for grades 2-6 or add a title? It's a lot for some kids to write.

Maybe consider color coding by transdisciplinary theme.
