Students who have disabilities or are not native English speakers tend to struggle with engagement in the classroom. This is often because they get over stimulated by an unknown environment. By using virtual reality learning they get to learn in a comfortable space where they can pace themselves and are in control of the things around them which encourages them to step out of their comfort zones and learn. They can control the headset, the brightness, and won't be as intimidated by a busy classroom.

Children who struggle to learn don't want to not learn. They just need different outlets and things that interest them which not every typical classroom can provide. AR and VR reality helps children get excited and want to interact with the things around them. For example children may be having a lesson on math. Instead of a typical paper and pencil the student could use virtual reality to write out the answer with his hands in the air making it a hands on experience. Where they are able to stand up and physically interact with what they are learning.

Often children struggle with multitasking, as they are still learning how to master their skills first. However with reading you have to work on two skills at once. Those skills being decoding an comprehension. Not only do the students have to correctly say the words they are reading but they also have to put together the sentences to form real ideas. Using AR helps with this because a student who struggles reading may be focused on trying to put a sentence together that they forget what the book was about or what the previous sentence was. So the visuals provided by AR help the student remember and retain the information from the book.

Both VR and AR also spark creative thinking. Students who aren't native English speakers are still learning the names for things so often they are stunted when it comes to being able to express their thoughts and imagination. But with VR and AR they can physically see things and learn what they are. This drives them to retain the information because it was introduced in a fun way.

VR and AR also encourages peer interaction. As the students are so excited to share their ideas and feelings about the things they learned and the unique way that they learned it. This could also lead to collaborative work, where the children put their ideas together.
