The crater is located near Vredefort in South Africa todayfrom where comes its name - Vredefort Dome. It was created after a collision with a meteorite and its diameter is 10 km. This attack has become about 70 cubic kilometers scale in steam! After that the level of oxygen on Earth increased to values that have enabled the development of multicellular life. In 2005 the crater was included in the list of sites of importance for UNESCO World Heritage.
