It wasn’t until i actually started sculpting that I realized I wanted to have my head resemble an alien sea creature. I used scraping tools, hook tools, knives, and the most important tool: my hands to sculpt the clay into the images I had in my mind. From every single material and tool I learned something new: with the clay I learned that it drys way too fast and once it’s dry it’s gone, so it needs to be wrapped up and moist, with the scraping tools I learned that the harder you push the more you ruin your sculpture so you have to be gentle and cautious, with the knives I learned not to use the knives, and with my hands I understood that I wasn’t aware of my own strength. 
It is apparent that my head looks nothing like my model or the pictures I tried to get inspiration from. Instead I used all of my preliminary work to discover the shape of the head, the shape of the eyes, ears, and mouth.
For a title for my sculpture, I’d say “ Beautifully creepy” this oxymoron shows that the work, though it is creepy and abnormal, has a beautiful form to it.
After doing this sculpture I can confidently say that the next time I do any work with clay I will make sure I do extreme preliminary work with models, ideas, pictures, plans, etc. Due to the fact that clay dries so fast it is crucial to have a basic idea of what you think you want to do before you actually perform it.
