This group will consist of 3 students (2 male, 1 female) who are English language learners and enrolled in a dual credit course. These students do not have academic assistance in their home as English is not spoken at home.

This group will work on Category 1, mindset standards, to facilitate the students' understanding of their thought processes which guides their future, and the domain of career development.

Publicity Method

Parents will be mailed a letter, in their preferred language, requesting permission for their student to participate in the small group sessions.

Administrators and students teachers will be advised via e-mail of the students participation in the group indicating when students will be out of class and for how long.

Pre-group Interview/Screening

Students who are enrolled in dual credit courses will be polled regarding home language and availability of home support. Students who indicated a limited amount of support from home will be offered and encouraged in the opportunity to participate in the group to facilitate a successful semester by learning where to find and access academic and career supports.

Informed Consent

All students in the group will be below 18 years of age. Parent permission/consent is required and the attached form will be used to obtain said consent/desent for participation.

Ground Rules

Student group guidelines will be include the expectation of confidentiality, respect, and cooperative participation. Students who fail to consistently follow the guidelines will be counseled privately to discuss the guidelines they originally agreed to, then if non-compliance continues, they will be dismissed from the group.

Group Dynamics

Stage 1-Relationship and trust has already been established within the group and between the group and myself. These students have been together since Pre-K and I have worked with them for the last 3 years. The dynamics of this group already hold a level of confidentiality due to certain personal factors and students have been advised of my role and what I will/must disclose.

Stage 2-Cooperative work will be determined by resources students bring to the meetings and how well they work together during classroom academic sessions as well.

Stage 3-While this group is only scheduled for 6 weekly sessions, I will be in the classroom with them daily and will visually monitor their progress and check in regularly with them on the self-confidence levels.

Leadership Style

Leadership style employed for this group will be cooperative. Students will primarily lead the group by asking questions, sharing learned resources and experiences, with redirection as needed from me. The group will be kept on topic and all conversation will be relevant to building college and career knowledge.
