This letter was about a ship that was attacked on Christmas Day. This resulted in mixed emotions and how during the Christmas Feast later that day. Soldiers were depressed and confused as to why this had to happen on Christmas Day. The man wrote this letter to Esther, his favorite cousin.

This letter shows two letters that a father, a former veteran, wrote to his son while he was in basic training, and after he was deployed overseas. In the first letter the father talks about how much the uniform means to this country. He explains how he knows his son will do nothing to disrespect the uniform and the country. He tells his son about how by wearing the uniform he is bringing freedom to everyone living back in the United States. Once he is deployed the father writes another letter where he explains that his son will go through many tough experiences. He explains that he needs to be strong mentally and do what he thinks is right. All in all, the father feels the uniform represents what the soldiers are fighting for, it represents the freedom for the people back home.

We talked about how difficult it would be to not be able to see your loved ones. This would be especially hard during Christmas, or any other holidays, like in Letter 1. Also, how difficult it must have been for soldiers to write about their experiences to their loved ones. We realized how we need to be more thankful for the people fighting for our country, who are putting their lives at risk.

This letter is written by a Navy Sailor in the Korean War. He writes to a fellow sailor about his experience as a prisoner after being attacked. I was surprised at how strong and proud to serve their country after going through a traumatic experience. This illustrates the dedication and love some of these soldiers have for our country. It also illustrates how lucky as American Citizens to have people like this protecting us and our loved ones.

We think it is okay for the public to see these letters because it allows people to see what war was actually like. There are a lot of assumptions made about war, but these letters give real life evidence and experiences about veterans' lives during war.
