Ever since I caught on to the habit of perusing the newspaper, rape has subjugated my news. Every day there was a rape headline that snatched my attention and has terrified me to my very core. Even though we live in a democracy, we have been deprived of our rights and been forced to live in this constant state of trepidation.

What are the origins of this rape culture? It's the gaslighting the is faced by the child who becomes a girl and then a woman.

We are still at a primitive stage in demolishing the gender biased ideologies. So let's blow the whistle on this misogynistic narrative that is part of our culture. Culture does not make people, people make culture. If respecting women is not part of our culture that we must make it one. Understanding the roots of this may help us uproot it- right from gender bias faced by a girl child vis a vis her brother to gaslighting a girl to not be too ambitious else she wont find a husband suitable enough for her to expecting a women to work and do household work without expecting her husband to give her a helping hand. When this narrative changes is when we will see a world were there will happier women and freer women.
