Looking to bring clarity, coherence, and creativity to your visual arts curriculum? This session presents a field-tested process for developing an aligned program rooted in art standards and best practices. You’ll walk through each phase of curriculum review and development, from revisiting or identifying priority standards and articulating a program philosophy to evaluating current practices, identifying gaps, and creating a plan for meaningful change. Whether you’re part of a single-building team or a district-wide department, you’ll leave with adaptable tools, planning templates, and reflection questions to guide your curriculum work. Empower your team to build a visual arts program that is intentional, student-centered, and future-ready.

The Art Throwdown: Prompt, Sweat + Cheers

The Art Throwdown is a live head-to-head visual arts competition for students that is presented by ArtConnectED annually. Each artist (or team) faces creative visual challenges as the audience watches the process firsthand, from prompt to ideation to product, and rooting for their favorites. Last year, 234 student participants across Illinois put their artistic skills to the test while competing against other IL HS art students.

These exciting challenges are usually 90 minutes, both in-person and digitally on Zoom. Last year we held our first in-school 3D Cardboard Sculpture Challenge, promoting art to a live audience of students, staff and administrators, all live streamed on YouTube.

Join us to meet the Throwdown Team, find out about this year’s exciting new Throwdown improvements, learn how you can advocate for these creative opportunities, and participate in your own adrenaline-filled experience in a mini-Art Throwdown Challenge! We’d love to have you join the fun!

https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1I6r18-prVXzufTghRoEVmI5gE3jyfhU1aHPd_fGUDeY/edit?usp=sharing
