I agree with Miranda’s idea that there is some connection between the first note and the disappearance of the key. I think the person who sent the note might send it earlier but Miranda found it after a few day. And during the time between it, he somehow managed to find the key even without Miranda’s response. (There might had been some time limit! He might find it very quickly)
