The history of the Castro Daire Village is lost a little in the time. We don't know  since when this vast area was occupied. It is known however that by the time of the Neolithic period the territory was intensely populated.
The village of Castro Daire presents a generalized planar feature, however, the groove corresponding to the Paiva valley is interposed by Montemuro moutains, whose ridges are also flattened. Castro Daire is located in the Center region in  Viseu district.  The Municipality boasts a vast and diverse landscape and architectural heritage that characterizes it as a municipality rich in testimonies of the past and as a place worthy of expressive worth visiting. Among this vast heritage can not fail to be highlighted the Church of the 12th century and the Roman Inscription of the Penedo de Lamas - Moledo. During the century XVIII there was a great period of expansion in Castro Daire. The Cerca house, Carrancas chapel, Aguilares house and Mendonças house, all of them located in the village, or the noble houses of Grijó do Gafanhão, Farejinhas and the village of Mões are outstanding monuments. All these monuments, as well as the dozens of churches and chapels built during the same period in the county, of which the main church of Castro Daire is the greatest example, reminding us of this golden period in the history of our county.
