- Success in the classroom and school looks like: students arriving to class on time, every student attending, all students being engaged in learning, independent learners, holding students to high standards no matter their level, solid relationships with students and families; especially repeat offenders, finding individual student's currency and getting them involved in school, individual celebrations with students often. Teachers having a voice and putting teams in place to promote positive culture, events to entice families to participate in school.
- JOHS data says: attendance on the lower side for a school, 20% of kids not graduating with cohort, decreased attendance since COVID, class cutting/disruption/disrespect cause most referrals, honor roll disparity.
- Barriers: COVID immaturity, home issues, lack of respect from some parents and kids, no support at home and no investment in education in some cases, unmotivated learners, apathy, poor communication to home about HS expectations, in some cases it's systemic from elementary and middle school, every classroom needs to be on the same page when it comes to protocols (cell phones), lack of parent involvement.
- Data Needs: who are the biggest offenders?, discipline options available to teachers, state expectations for discipline and rules, communication from Polk about her students and their expectations.
