Andrzejki, also known as St. Andrew’s Eve, began centuries ago as a serious night of fortune-telling for young unmarried women, who believed they could discover the name or profession of their future husband. Over time, it transformed into a fun, light-hearted celebration for everyone—children, teenagers, and adults.

Although it has roots in old Slavic and Christian traditions, today Andrzejki is mostly about having fun, celebrating with friends, and maybe catching a glimpse of what the future holds.

Boys make a hand-braided whip called "pomlázka" and visit girls to gently tap them as a fun way to wish them health and beauty for the whole year. In return, girls give them painted eggs called "kraslice", and sometimes chocolate or a colorful ribbon for the whip.

Families also enjoy traditional food like "mazanec" (sweet Easter bread) and "beránek" – a lamb-shaped cake. The whole celebration is full of colors, spring energy, and old Slavic customs that are still alive today.

The event lasts for several days during the summer (June) and includes a diverse program – cultural, entertainment, sports and social.

The events include concerts, art and drama performances, exhibitions, workshops, sports tournaments, bicycle rides, fishing, cooking (e.g. a hunting shepherd competition) and similar activities.

The event also includes commemorative elements — the laying of wreaths and lighting of candles for the fallen veterans, and a memorial mass.

In 2024, they were held for the fourteenth year in a row.

Activities include colourful parades, involving traditional dance groups and music bands, creating a festive atmosphere in the streets. In addition, fairs and gastronomic events are organised where you can taste typical dishes such as paella and local sweets. The day culminates with an impressive fireworks display that lights up the sky, making this celebration a memorable moment for Valencians and visitors alike.

Here in our school we conmemorate the day dancing the tipic "dançà" with traditional customs in the playground all the students and cook some sweets made with almonds and sugar.

In addition to competitions, the festival includes workshops, exhibitions, and inspiring talks by experts. Visitors can see new inventions, learn about space and aviation, and even try different technologies themselves. Teknofest helps young generations dream big, work together, and believe that they can make a difference through science and innovation.

• Traditional Slovak dishes such as potato pancakes (lokše), grilled pork (cigánska pečienka), sausages, sauerkraut soup (kapustnica), and dumplings (halušky)

• Regional products – sheep cheese, bryndza, honey, jams, wine, and fruit brandy

• Street food favorites – langoš (fried flatbread), burgers, fries, chimney cakes (trdelník), roasted chestnuts

• Sweet treats for kids – cotton candy, lollipops, chocolate delights
