Two astronauts stuck in space for 9 months have returned to Earth

Science News

Two astronauts who were stranded in space for 9 months have finally returned to earth. Starting with an 8 day mission the astronauts were stranded when the Boeing Starliner experienced technical difficulties forcing NASA to leave the astronauts on the ISS. The astronauts were delayed for nine months before finally returning from their “8 day” mission on May 18, 2025.

The astronauts returned in a SpaceX Dragon capsule which crashed down in the ocean before responders pulled the astronauts from the capsule and carried them away. They spent a total of 237 days in space rather than the planned 8. The astronauts experienced many consequences for their trip due to the difference in gravity. The astronauts will need time to re-adjust to earth's gravity, needing time to practice things like walking and moving on Earth. These side-effects are common among space travelers with astronauts often experiencing bone loss, vision impairments, Immune dysfunction, and even Brain structure changes. They will need time to recover before they can celebrate their triumphant return home. The astronauts will undergo NASA Spaceflight Standard Measurements where they will be thoroughly tested and analysed to ensure they are healthy and able to recover after their time in space.

In this documentary, it describes the development of the Boeing 737 Max, which was a successor of the lineage of 737 iterations in order to compete with Airbus. However, the 737 Max was extremely rushed and under pressure, which resulted in a lack of training for personnel flying the plane, which caused two crashes and the loss of roughly 400 people. These disasters can be directly contributed to Boeing's negligence in trying to disregard the FAA's mandates of pilot training for new flight systems, which was present on the 737 Max under "MCAS".

“The Basis of sex” is a film about Ruth Bader Ginsburg. It's on Netflix, Youtube and Amazon prime. She was one of the second female supreme court lawyers and an activist who fought for women’s rights and equal rights. In the film it states how she attended Harvard law to become a lawyer but kept on getting discriminated against by the men there because she was a woman. But then she transferred to columbia for a better opportunity. Her husband was very supportive and knew how passionate she was about wanting to become a lawyer, since he was a lawyer himself. Her first ever case involved a caregiver tax. In this situation they assumed the caregiver was a woman when it was actually a man who was taking care of his elderly mother. This relates to American history because it goes over all the court cases filed that included unfair taxes, unfair property and more sexist cases that were filed.
