Was very quiet at school and have become more of a student that engaged often as I found no one else would. I am a learner who likes to read and digest things so sometimes I don't always want to answer straight away.

You don’t have to assess verbally. Not all students like to speak up or share ideas in a whole group environment. Accepting that is part of assessing what kind of learner they are. You can assess their non verbal ‘body’ language, are they taking notes, looking interested or disengaged. Do they join in group work or contribute to writing up tasks as a group. A quiet learner could be but isn’t always a disengaged or struggling learner. As tutors you have to use other methods to see which category they fall into and offer support where needed.
