I am using "Message in a bottle" by The Police because it connects to the plot and somewhat of the theme in chapter 1. In the song The Police say "But I should have known this right from the start
Only hope can keep me together". This line gives a sense of hope and a tone of aspiration. Such as the line from the Lord of the Flies "'He's a commander in the Navy. When he gets leave he'll come and rescue us"(Golding 13) Just like the verse above this quote also shows a belief in hope and a theme of how hope keeps people safe and calm. Another line from the song is "Don't believe what I saw
A hundred billion bottles
Washed up on the shore
Seems I'm not alone at being alone" This verse gives off a tone of relief because there are more people like the singer with the same problems. This moment is also appears in The Lord of the Flies. '“We can use this to call the others. Have a meeting. They’ll come when they hear us—” '(19onlinebook). Piggy also "exclaimed: “There’s one!”' as a kid appeared from the trees(20). Both of these quotes like the lyric above emits relief and happiness since there are other survivors from the plane crash. The second line from Lord of the Flies has a key word that emits this tone and that is the word exclaimed. This shows that Piggy was excited to see more people and probably felt a lot better when they saw someone.

I am using "I see fire" in chapter 2 because in both the book and the song there is a similar plot. In Lord of the flies the kids lit a fire to get someone to see the smoke but it created "Acres of black and yellow smoke that rolled steadily toward the sea"(60). "The heart of flame leapt nimbly across the gap between the trees and then went swinging and flaring along the whole row of them"(60).They created a huge fire that lit a huge part of the island on fire. This is similar to the line "Watch the flames burn on and on the mountain side". In all quotes flames have erupted on a mountain and speeded, creating a similar plot in each. Also creating a similar plot was when Ed Sheeran sang "And I see fire, hollowing souls And I see fire, blood in the breeze". In Lord of The Piggy says “That little’un that had a mark on his face–where is–he now? I tell you I don’t see him"(63). Both of these quotes have similar plots of someone dying in a fire. In the song there are sounds of souls burning and in the book there is a kid that got lost in the fire. With similar plot also comes similar tone. With a massive fire and people dying in each piece of writing a tone of melancholy and sadness and even eeriness appears in the book and the song.

We found "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor to be very fitting for the soundtrack in chapter five. For example in the song it says "Just a man and his will to survive." This could describe Ralph in this chapter as he attempts to coax the boys into building shelter and keep the signal fire going when he states "How can we ever be rescued except by luck, if we don't keep a fire going?" (Golding 61) "Risin' up,
straight to the top" could describe the rise in power of Jack, especially when he says "Bollocks to the rules!" (Golding 70) and all the boys leave the meeting. Another lyric to represent the book is "Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past" This line is similar to the loss of importance of the fire and rule to the boys Ralph, the main advocate of the fire even saying "We shan't keep the fire going. We'll be like animals. We'll never be rescued." Showing that he lost his grip on his past goals.

The song we chose for the chapter is "Monster" by Gabbie Hanna. This song represents chapter 6 with many lyrics and the theme throughout. A lyric in this song states "So what if I'm the monster that's been here all along?" This lyric relates to chapter 5 when Simon says "Maybe there is a beast...maybe it's only us." (Golding 68) This is similar to the song questioning if the beast is them. The song also says "They're dropping like flies whenever I'm around." This lyric is fitting because the book alludes the children to be flies and this could foreshadow impending deaths. Lastly, the song says "Underneath your cover now, don't be scared" like how they wanted shelters more to hide from the beastie.

"Animal I've become" by Three Days Grace represents chapter 7 well in multiple instances in the song. The lines " I can't escape this hell
So many times I've tried
But I'm still caged inside" in the song represents Ralph's feelings in the beginning of the song when the book states " ...faced by the brute obtuseness of the ocean, the miles of division, one was clamped down, one was helpless, one was condemned..." (pg 85) He tries to escape the island but feels caged by the ocean, like the song. Also the song says "I can't control myself... No one would ever change this animal I have become" This is resembled in the later part of the chapter where the boys almost kill Robert pretending he is a pig. (pg 88-89) This part shows how they are being animals and can't control themselves. The song also states "So many times I've lied... And we believe it's not the real me." These verses resemble when Ralph said, uneasily "That was a good game. Just a game." Both the book and the song shows denial of the savages they have become.

The song I chose was "Savages" by Nine Ice Kills. This song further captures the savagery that the boys obtain from the island as the book goes on. The song's chorus says "We are the savages
Eating you alive." While the boys don't eat the pig alive, they certainly torture the pig, defiantly without a hint of civilization. (Golding 104-105) The song further captures the distance from society the boys are experiencing with the lyric "Out on the cringe of society's where we lie." Like this like, the boys are experiencing a distance from society, especially in this chapter as we see with the hunting of the pigs. To further this message the song says "Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide." This represents the pig being trapped that they kill. (Golding 104-105)

I chose "Hunting" by Korpiklaani because it emits a similar plot and theme compared to the book. In the book the hunters after they killed a pig the kids chanted "Kill the pig. Cut her throat. Spill her blood"(52). This compares to the line in "Hunting" "And we kill without pity
We rejoice and we laugh when the deer falls" Both of these quotes represent the theme of lost of innocence. In the book you have kids manhandling an animal and letting it suffer and showing no respect. In the song the adults killing a deer and laughing while it suffer. this can also show how adults can influence children and rubbing off on them. Also in the song Korpiklaani sings "We are a part of the wilderness" and "Only the fast will survive
In the forest we prowl". This is similar to the Lord of the flies plot and also how Golding described the hunters. "He peered at his reflection and disliked it. He bent down, took up a double handful of
lukewarm water and rubbed the mess from his face. Freckles and sandy eyebrows appeared"(48). Jack also "made one cheek and one eye-socket white, then he
rubbed red over the other half of his face and slashed a black bar of charcoal across from right
ear to left jaw"(48). In both the song and the book the characters act like there in the wild and like they are the animal. This represents a similar plot between the two and a similar setting through imagery. Through imagery used by the artist and author they let the reader see what the characters see, and even imagine what the characters look like. A huge example would be jack rubbing clay and dirt on his face in quote above from Lord of the Flies.

We chose the song "Zombie" by The Cranberries due to its similar meaning to chapter 9 in Lord of the Flies. In the chapter, the boys "lose their mind" and more specifically lose their sense of humanity. This is shown in the chapter where the members of Jack's tribe start doing there wild dance and end up tearing apart Simon like animals.(Golding 153)This correlates to the lyrics, "Child is slowly taken, and the violence caused such silence, who are we mistaking?" The lyric "a child is slowly taken" relates to the kids being taken into Jack's tribe and losing their sense of humanity. The lyric, "In your head, Zombie Zombie" also relates to the boys minds not thinking in civilized ways but like zombies. The boys are constantly chanting "Kill the beast! Cut his throat! Spill his blood!" This symbolizes how their minds have been basically taken over by savagery

A song that relates to this chapter is "Bad Moon Rising" by Creedence Clearwater Revival. The song clearly indicates that something bad is about to happen. "Don't go 'round tonight, It's bound to take your life, There's a bad moon on the rise." In the chapter, The reader can foreshadow that another malicious event will occur. Jack is terrorizing and dictating his tribe to make sure nobody rebels or thinks separately from Jack.(Golding 160, 161) This portrays to the reader that Jack is just creating a tribe of savages to attack Ralph's group at some point. Jack is more focused on maintaining his role as leader than trying to survive on the island and return back home.

I used "Hungry like the Wolf" by Duran Duran because it contains a similar plot like chapter 3. In chapter 3 Jack is on the verge to killing a pig and was tracking it down and "crouched with his face a few inches away from this clue"(48). This is similar to the song because in the song Duran sings "I'm on the hunt down I'm after you" which is what Jack is doing, hunting after a pig. This wolf like comparison can also describe Jack as he acts "dog-like, uncomfortably on all fours" and "stole five yards"(48). Also in the song Duran sings "I smell like I sound" which also can relate to Jack's hunt when "he passed like a shadow under the darkness of the tree and crouched, looking down at the trodden ground at his feet"(49)". In both lines the reader can imagine both characters being slick silent while there on the prowl for their prey.

For chapter 11, the song "Amazing" by Kanye West best represents this chapter. In this chapter, Ralph and his tribe show up to Jack's tribe to protest for Piggy's glasses and try to win back over some of the boys. Jack and Ralph get into a scuffle and Piggy tries to reiterate how the boys should leave on the island.(Golding 177, 178) A lyric in the song states, "I'm exhausted, barely breathing, holding on to what I believe in." This directly correlates to how Jack, Ralph and Piggy are fighting on how the island and the boys should operate. After all of the scuffling, Jack ends up winning the leverage.(Golding 178, 179) Jack's power over the boys relates to the lyrics, "No matter what you'll never take that from me, my reign is as far as your eyes can see."

Ironically though, the fire ends up catching the signal of a naval officer who saves the boys. A song that correlates to all of this is "Through the Fire and the Flames" by DragonForce. A lyric in the song states, "For the lives all so wasted and gone
We feel the pain of a lifetime lost in a thousand days
Through the fire and the flames we carry on" This explains all of the death that has happened in the book and all the guilt that has build up in the kids heads.(Golding 202)
