         <description><![CDATA[<div>Opening for a junior researcher in radiative transfer and spectral analysis of comets in the Astrochemistry Laboratory at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. &nbsp;<br><br>This position would be ideally suited to a recent graduate in  Physics/Astrophysics/Computer Science, who is looking for hands-on research experience as preparation for future PhD study in a space-science related discipline.<br><br>Primary duties will involve C programming to enhance the functionality of our comet coma analysis software, including (1) updating the electron collision methodology, (2) working on optimal parameter estimation methods, (3) performing tests and benchmarks and (4) using the code to analyze ALMA observations of comets.          <description><![CDATA[<div>UTIG DISTINGUISHED POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWS PROGRAM<br>The University of Texas Institute for Geophysics (UTIG) invites applications for its Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellows program for 2022-2023. UTIG, which is part of the Jackson School of Geosciences at The University of Texas at Austin, is known for research innovation, integrative science efforts, and international field programs in geophysics (solid earth, marine, polar), climate science, planetary science, and energy geoscience (ig.utexas.edu/research/).<br><br>This is a competitive, endowed institutional award open to recent doctorates (degree within the past 3 years) in Earth, marine, and planetary science, or allied fields. The appointment is for two years, contingent upon performance. UTIG seeks to advance equity, diversity, and inclusivity in the geosciences, and recipients of this fellowship will join a vibrant community of scientists. UTIG postdoc fellows are expected to pursue self-directed research in any scientific subfield that complements or expands ongoing programs. Applicants are encouraged to identify and contact one or more prospective UTIG mentors (see ig.utexas.edu/about/institutional-postdoctoral-research-fellows/ for a list of past awardees and projects).&nbsp;<br><br>Successful applicants may take up residence at UTIG as early as March 1, 2022.&nbsp; Salary is $60,000 per year and appointees are eligible for benefits; the appointment also comes with discretionary funds of $5,000 for research and travel expenses.          <description><![CDATA[<div>JSG DISTINGUISHED POSTDOCTRAL FELLOWS PROGRAM<br>The Jackson School of Geosciences at The University of Texas at Austin is seeking applicants for its 2021-2022 school-wide Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellows Program. We seek to hire creative and enterprising postdoctoral scholars who will conduct independent research on topics that advance our understanding of Earth as a system while engaging with researchers and faculty across the Jackson School. We welcome applicants with research interests across geosciences disciplines, but we are particularly interested in applicants who want to work at the interfaces between disciplines [e.g., planetary evolution and habitability].<br><br>The appointment is for two years with a salary of $60,000 per year, plus health care and other benefits. Research support of $10,000 per year is also provided. The start date is flexible and can be as early as February 1, 2022. Applicants must complete a Ph.D. before starting, but be no more than three years past their doctoral degree date.<br><br>An application package should include:<br>- a document outlining past achievements and general research interests (one page)<br>- a brief research proposal, including a short section describing how the research may leverage and magnify research being conducted at the Jackson School, ideally with more than one research group at the Jackson School (one page)<br>- a current CV that includes education and employment history, publications, and awards<br>- a list of names and contact information for three potential references&nbsp;<br><br>The application deadline for this round of funding is November 7, 2021.
