The person is portraying themselves as a victim of others actions or whatever that is happening. The speaker is not literally “<em>the victim</em>” but is illustrated in their thoughts.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>[3] </strong>The speaker is addressing that they know how it feels to be a victim, their mentality, how they feel, etc. The speaker can empathize with victims as the speaker relates to them as she can portray them in the speakers thoughts. The speaker is skilled at putting themselves in the victim’s shoe in their personal thoughts.</p><p><br></p>]]></description>

Brakes may fail.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>[4] </strong>The speaker is showing that the brakes serve as a metaphor of life, showing that the speaker may be feeling a sense of loss, life is out of control and you are having difficulties controlling it. “<em>And every night, I wake up from this one recurring dream, </em>...<em>the brakes go out on me”</em> indicates that the speaker feels overwhelmed by the challenges they face are unable to steer their life in the correct directions as the speaker's challenges are like brakes. Hence, the speaker is implying that the brakes are like a metaphor, showing that she is facing many challenges and feels like her life is out of control.</p>]]></description>
