Major label are the type of labels that have a large budget and are promoting the productions every where for example billboards and adverts as they have lots of many that they can spend on it. They usually get huge response form the audience. 
Independent labels are the type of labels that are self dependent but they have less budget so they usually promote the productions on social medias and some but not much advertising but not as huge as major labels because there is not much budget for advertising.
