         <description><![CDATA[<div>-Defintion : as numbers become increasingly larger exponential notation is an easier way to simplifiy rather then writing in standard form.&nbsp;<br>-&nbsp; Painted Cube&nbsp; Activity&nbsp; is a great way to demonstrate and teach exponents.&nbsp; 1x1x1 cube a 2x2x2 cube and 3x3x3 cube and so on. as the painted cube grows so does the size.&nbsp;<br>- Order of Operations: working with the exponents extends the order of operations. order of operations is not just a convention, its based on the meaning of the operations.&nbsp;<br>-Exponents in Expressions<br>Students starting out need to explore exponents with whole numbers before using exponents with variables.<br>- A whole- number exponent is simply the repeated multiplication of the number times itself.<br>Example: 3^5= 3x3x3x3x3<br>The three in this problem represents the base of the exponent.<br><br>Practice Problems<br>Identify the base and solve.<br>2^6=&nbsp;<br>4^4=<br>2^3=<br>2^5=<br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Overall, our group reaction thought for the Integers section was very helpful and how it provide different strategies on how to teach it to our future students. In addition, we feel it helped us become more confident when teaching these certain concepts. Furthermore, this chapter helped us is how it provided a lot of technology resources that could be infused into our lessons. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Activity 23.12, Finding the Zero.<br><br>For negative numbers, you find the opposite number that would equal 0. From there you see if you could take that number from the remaining number, making the remaining number the answer.<br><br>Example 12 + (-5)<br>opposite of -5 is 5, making a zero.<br>12 - 5 is 7. Therefore (7 + 5) + (-5) )= 7 + (5+(-5) = 7+0 = 7.<br><br>Problems <br><br>8+ (-3)<br><br>9 + (-6)<br><br>5 + (-2)<br><br>-8 + 12<br><br>-14 + 7<br><br>21 + (-11)<br><br>Bonus<br><br>39 + (-23)<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-Definition: Whole numbers and their negatives or opposites.<br><br>-Quantity Contexts: Provide an opportunity for students to match opposites (4 and -4) to equal zero. Examples of this can include golf scores, and money payments and deposits.&nbsp;<br><br>-Linear Contexts: A number line provides a good tool for understanding the ordering of negative numbers and can support reasoning in doing operations with positive and negative numbers. Examples of this can include temperatures, altitude, and timelines.&nbsp;<br><br>-Negative numbers: Defined in relation to their counterparts. n+?=0 If n is a positive number, the opposite of n is a negative number.&nbsp;<br>-Models for teaching positive and negative numbers: Counters and Number Lines<br><br>-Operations:&nbsp;<br>Addition and Subtraction: Focus on the meaning of&nbsp;<br>opposites.<br>Multiplication and Division: Think of multiplication as&nbsp;equal groups, or repeated addition. Connect division of negative numbers with what students know about positive numbers. </div>]]></description>
