This picture shows a house of what looks like had cardboard for siding on their house. This shows poverty because it shows that people do not have enough money to pay for the proper siding, and therefore their house is very rundown on the outside.

“Poverty doesn’t give you strength or teach you lessons about perseverance. No, poverty only teaches you how to be poor" (13).

Junior describes how poverty doesn't teach him anything besides how to be poor. A lot of people say that poverty teaches many lessons on how to preserver in life. However, according to Junior, it doesn't do anything on teaching you lessons, it just teaches you how to be poor.

This shows poverty because it shows that the indian reservation doesn't have enough money to pay for new text books.

"My dad was supposed to pick me up. But he wasn't sure if he'd have enough gas money. Especially if he was going to stop at the rez casino and play slot machines first" (87).

Junior has a rough time trying to get home. His dad sometimes picks him up, but he usually has to walk or hitchhike home. This quote shows that Junior's family doesn't have a lot of money. And, the money they do have, Junior's dad spends it on casino games or alcohol. This makes his family more poor.
