During the rule of Stresemann, Germany experienced a cultural revival, they were now allowed to freely express and embrace their history and achievements.
Unlike in the Kaiser’s time, because writers and poets were able to flourish and the influence of old styles of paintings and art were now ignored because artists like George grosz highlighted the experiences of the soldiers in the war and the foolishness of politicians, churches, army leaders and businesses. Bauhaus design and architecture developed attracting 15 thousand visitors to his first exhibitions. 1920 was a golden age for cinema in Germany with the introduction of international stars, such as Marlene Dietrich and Fritz Lang. These forms of arts were not afraid to express cabaret artists criticizing political leaders and songs about sex that would have shocked an earlier generation of Germans.

Watch the video to learn more about cultural achievements in Germany:
https://slideplayer.com/slide/5783995/

Stresemann’s skills regarding Foreign policy resulted in some of his greatest successes.
He signed the Lorcano Treaties in 1925, which ensured he would not try to modify Germany’s borders in the West with France and Belgium. This resulted in the acceptance of Germany into the League of Nations in 1926, which the previous denial of Germany as a member of the League had been a large insult to many German people.

Stresemann then began to work on changing some terms included in the Treaty of Versailles, specifically those regarding reparation payments and Germany’s eastern borders, two of the most hated and problematic causes of the Treaty.

Stresemann died in 1929, but by then he had negotiated the vital Young Plan, which removed a large amount of pressure on a Germany concerning reparations and resulted in British, French and Belgian finally putting their occupation of the Rhineland to an end.

Therefore, without Stresemann, Germany would have been under much more Political and Economic pressure for a far longer period of time, and Germany may never have found a way to escape the shackles that were the Tresty of Versailles and its clauses.

Politics-
Despite the Weimar’s political stability, both the Nazis and Communists built up their organisations. There was a large build-up of collaboration between the right-wing Nationalist Part (DNVP) and the Nazis, with both parties trying to look more respectable in the eyes of the German people. Germany was stable within but there was always a sense of uneasiness because the right-wing were silent but building up strength. There were 4 different Chancellors of Germany during these “stable” years. There was the eventual election of the much respected Field Marshal Hindenburg as president, showing us that the German majority were beginning to believe in the ideology of the right-wing. Hindenburg was in contact with the Kaiser and opposed democracy. Since Hindenburg was a central figure in the German society, he could communicate his ideas pretty easily to the public, giving an edge to right wing parties like the Nazis and DNVP

(To be continued
