Oliver Jeffers is an award winning author and illustrator, as well as a renown artist, writing and collaborating on over 20 children's books (including Stuck, What well build, Where to hide a star, and The day the Crayons Quit). Originally from Belfast, and now lives and works in Brooklyn. He is known as one of the world's best illustrators in 2008 by Times magazine. He has also won over 25 awards for his works and illustrations.

The endpages of many of Oliver's books have something to do with common items that have some kind of symbolism through out the books. For example in both Stuck and What we'll Build, the end pages are full of items that are pertinent to the story; the tools the father and daughter use, and all the items Floyd throws in the trees. The end pages in This Moose Belongs to Me, Is more abstract, at first looking like just some squiggly lines, but after reading the book, the lines are the ball of string used by the main character as to not get lost in the forest.

One of my favorite pieces of symbolism through out the books was the fox in What we'll build. After viewing an interview Oliver Jeffers does on the book, we find out the fox that is found throughout their journey is representative of his mother leading the was. Jeffer's mother is also who he named his daughter after, making the connections even deeper.

I like the idea of the tree representing our heads, and all the things we fill them with trying to solve a problem only to forget what we were trying to do in the first place.

One of my favorite parts of Oliver Jeffers' books is the way he hand write a lot of the text in his books. For example, he hand writes the text in the cover pages of his books, as well as all of the letters in The day the crayons Quit in crayon and did the same in Stuck. His hand writing is very distinct, Drawing in a child like spark of wonder into his books and ties the words and the illustrations together.

Hard topics

After exploring a few of Oliver Jeffers' stories, I can see how crafty he is in taking a very hard topic to talk about and make it just creative enough to have an easier time talking about. In Meanwhile Back on Earth, he covers a hard topic of climate change. He also ends each of the stories with a kind of, "we're not done yet, there is something we can do" kind of statement, reminding the readers to never give up.

Oliver Jeffers' art style is very distinct and really reflects the most important things in his life. A lot of the characters in the book reflect his family and their interests are shown off in the stories he tells.
