         <title>Specific Goal for Literacy Plan</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li><strong><em><mark> Professional development: </mark></em></strong></li><li>Professional development on new technologies will be provided to teachers, staff, and administration on a regular basis.</li><li>Staff development programs in digital and media literacy (Hobbs, 2010)</li><li>Professional development will be given to show teachers how to use our existing technologies in new and more meaningful ways.</li><li>A community of teacher experts will be created for the purpose of: answering peer questions, learning about and teaching new technologies, and demonstrating digital literacies in use in the classroom.</li><li><strong><em><mark>Planning time:</mark></em></strong></li><li>Collaborative planning time will be utilized by grade level teams to develop cross-curricular units that incorporate digital literacy.</li><li>Ample time will be given to staff to explore new technologies</li><li><strong><em><mark>Curriculum and Practice: </mark></em></strong></li><li>Our school will hire a full time technology instructor.  The role of this teacher will be to provide students with lessons on: digital citizenship, audio and visual literacies, coding, social medias, etc.</li><li>Integrate digital literacies and tools in to reading and writing workshops</li><li>Create Digital Citizenship units appropriate for each grade level</li><li>Teach lessons on digital and visual literacy skills to think critically and analyze digital literacies (Finley, 2014)</li><li>Provide regular opportunities for students to both create and consume literacy online.</li><li>Screencasts will be created for students to model how to navigate commonly used apps and websites in our school.  </li><li>Whenever appropriate, teachers will strive to provide instruction in meaningful, project-based, units that incorporate students’ participatory cultures.</li><li><strong><em><mark>Community</mark></em></strong>:</li><li>Support family literacy programs in the area</li><li>Incorporate multiple academic nights for families throughout the school year with workshops on digital literacy</li><li>Support and encourage parent volunteers in school </li></ul>]]></description>
