I was surprised to see scarcity on the persuasion list as my understanding is that it's not an effective way to motivate or handle people, I assume there are situations where it works though! 

For the reading, I found it largely academic, and struggled to see how I would apply it to real life. I particularly enjoyed the 'Positive Power of Servant Leadership' video. Although some of the ideas felt a little 'American' and cheesy at first, the takeaway message of 'show up and engage' is so simple but effective. As an English teacher, I am constantly thinking about the power of language when analysing texts with students, but hadn't given as much thought to this in my own leadership role. 

From the face-to-face session, there were lots of takeaways including the 6Rs of positive conversations and body language. However, I think it will take me a little more time to be able to test some of these strategies out as my priority in my role at the moment is getting to know the department, KS4 English team and evaluating what is already in place. It was great to have this opportunity to refresh my understanding and I feel so much more confident applying these concepts to any difficult conversations that arise.
What I have learnt is the SCARF model; very interesting, and I'll be looking into that in more detail. From the videos I learnt a bit more about Brene Brown's background than I knew before, and I was surprised to hear how much of a 180 she's achieved since earlier in life. I also found the talk about vulnerability very interesting and a good reminder.

Would be great to have a second session to cover the remainder. A really engaging delivery meant that I feel I can remember a lot of the information as well. So much easier when done in person! 
I noticed that the most recent leadership styles to be published appear to be the older ones in a more 'jazzed up', modern interpretation. 
There was a lot of reinforcement that you need to jump between styles, so identifying both which styles are best for you, and what situations you need to use those styles in, is really important. 
There was also a nice reminder that being a leader is not about being the 'cleverest' in the room. You don't need to be the best teacher or have the best subject knowledge. You need to lead.

Questions wise - can we have a second session on that? Really interesting to explore some   philosophy behind curricula design, and to discuss different perspectives on what the aims, priorities, and expectations are. I find that in situations like this, the conversations are incredibly rewarding, and this was no exception. The questions we were asked to consider really promoted this discussion as well. 

I noticed that there seemed to be broad agreement about some of the goals, with some varying ways of achieving them. As always, exploring each others' thinking is very interesting. 

I've learned to consider the underlying aims of what we're trying to deliver when planning curricula. Previously I've only really explicitly focused on whether we'd lean towards knowledge or skills, in future I'd want to explicitly deal with character as well, and in a significant way.
