I think flipping can be an interesting approach to teaching, but it can't be the only means for teaching. In an ELA classroom, there will be a need to have classroom discussions and lectures to ensure your students are understanding the topic.
Peggy

I think flipping ELA classrooms is a great idea. It gives students a chance to interact with the content at their own pace. They can watch the informational videos at home at their own pace and however many times they need. I definitely plan on using flipped videos in my future classroom because I think it will open up class time for more engaging, meaningful activities than simply listening to me talk. The topics that require a lot of student interaction, such as analyzing a text, might not work well with flipped videos, but topics like background information on a text or grammar would be good for flipped videos since they are more objective.

I enjoyed flipping the classroom because it provided a fun an interactive way to engage the students. I think students will benefit from this in the future because they are so involved with technology. I think a drawback of flipping would be the fact that some students may not have access to internet at home so they may not be able to do any work at home.
Kimberlyn

I think aspects of research and presentation are aspects of ELA that can be more easily flipped than reading a novel. Although with a novel, an audio book can be used as a starting point for reading to help students become engaged and interested with the novel. In terms of teaching a topic, there are many options of presenting specific terminology or ideas of literature that would be otherwise more difficult for the students to understand.

As a future instructor, I enjoyed the flipping activity; I like that I have choices for relaying information that go beyond the classroom and go deeper into technology. I think that vocabulary, literary elements, drama terms, etc. are good content for flipped videos because if students learn the basics at home at their own pace, that leaves more time in the classroom for practice. Time that would have been spent lecturing or drilling would instead be spent collaborating and answering each other's questions. -Hannah

I feel as though flipping an ELA classroom can be very effective. However, I think it would work best if students were eased into it. For example, doing a practice lesson to help show all of the students how it works would help each of them feel more comfortable with technology. I also think that students would enjoy watching a short video for homework as opposed to reading/writing for homework. However, the constraints I see to flipping is the amount of outside time it takes to actually create the video. I feel as though the time spent making the videos could easily be better used simply going over the material in the classroom. Although technology is very important for students to become accustomed to using, I feel as though flipping all the time would frustrate students that are not technologically inclined.

The idea behind flipping a classroom is brilliant, in theory. Whereas it allows students to use the technology around them in an individual way, it is also clearly geared towards a certain age group. It also relies on all students having internet, and being at least somewhat technologically inclined.
